How To Bet On Rangers Angels – Angels Try To Make Final, Desperate Push Versus Texas

Posted by Dale "Skip" Lalonde on 9/16/2012 6:38:06 PM

The Los Angeles Angels are lagging slightly behind the rest of the competition in the race for the final wild card playoff slot in the American League. They have to outperform the Texas Rangers.

Texas Rangers @ Los Angeles Angels – Series Overview

Game 1: Tuesday, September 18

Sports betting experts will find it hard to go against Texas in the opener of this three-game series, a series in which the Angels must win at least two out of three to stay in the American League wild card hunt. Ryan Dempster is the starting pitcher for the Rangers, boasting a very impressive 2.86 earned-run average as part of the defending American League champions' rotation. Ervin Santana is the starter for the Angels, saddled with an earned-run average of just over five runs per game, at 5.08. When two established veteran pitchers – as Dempster and Santana are – find themselves separated by more than two runs on their ERAs in the middle of September, the pitcher with the superior numbers should be trusted. When one also realizes that Texas is clearly the better team in this matchup, the Rangers should be given the nod… even if Los Angeles needs this game a lot more than Texas does. Pick the Rangers here in game one of the series.

Game 2: Wednesday, September 19

The betting websites that pay particularly close attention to baseball (while other sites gravitate to football) will be strongly inclined to go with the Angels in this contest. As is the case in game one, the pitching matchup is rather one-sided, only this time, it works in favor of Los Angeles. The Rangers will go with Derek Holland, who has been mediocre this season after his dynamic outing in Game 4 of the 2011 World Series against the St. Louis Cardinals.

Holland's earned-run average has never been particularly close to breaking the four-run mark. His ERA stands at 4.59, a disappointing figure for the Rangers and a sign of legitimate concern as the playoffs approach. Holland will be opposed by the Angels' staff ace, Jered Weaver, a legitimate Cy Young Award candidate in the American League whose earned-run average sits at 2.86. It was several tenths of a run lower not too long ago, but the long grind of a season has eaten away at Weaver's gleaming numbers.

Nevertheless, Weaver completely outclasses Holland as a pitcher. Unless Holland is surprisingly effective, the Angels are very much in position to win this game on Wednesday.

MLB Betting Pick: Los Angeles Angels

Game 3: Thursday, September 20

When betting on online poker, you are playing a game that involves a certain trust in the cards that come up. You don't yet see certain cards, but you hope they will emerge. It's similar to this finale of the three-game series between these teams in Anaheim, Calif. The two starting pitchers for this game have not yet been announced, but if the teams do split their first two encounters, the rubber game is likely to go to the Angels, simply because they need wins a lot more than the Rangers do. Texas will make the playoffs; Los Angeles is fighting for its playoff life. Go with the more desperate team here, the Angels.
