Online betting players are gearing up for the All-Star break, but there is still some weekend action to check out in San Francisco as the Giants host the New York Mets at AT&T Park. The Giants have won only four of their last 10 at home against the Mets with seven games going over the posted total, and these games shouldn’t be high-scoring as the Giants have three starters going to the All-Star Game, which should also propel them to a series win.

What: MLB Betting
When: Friday, July 8th-Sunday, July 10th
Where: AT&T Park, San Francisco, CA
Pick: San Francisco Giants

(All pitching matchups are tentative)

Friday, 10:10 PM ET – R.A. Dickey (4-7, 3.68) vs. Ryan Vogelsong (6-1, 2.13)

In a matchup of two veteran pitchers who seem to have found homes after journeyman careers, The Giants should be the MLB betting favorites at home behind the 33-year-old Vogelsong, who is an All-Star for the first time. He is 1-0 in four games (two starts) against the Mets with a 4.15 ERA, and 3-1 in seven games (six starts) at home with a sparkling 1.01 ERA. He’ll take on the 36-year-old Dickey, who pulled his left glute in his last start against the New York Yankees, so be sure to confirm that he will start this game. The knuckleballer is 0-1 in two starts against the Giants with a 4.85 ERA, and he has lost his lone start at AT&T Park, where he allowed a run in seven innings in a 2-0 loss last season.

Dickey keeps overcoming the odds to perform, but picking a 36-year-old knuckleballer who was hurt in his last start? That’s a tough call to make. Meanwhile, Vogelsong has been lights out at home this season, so the edge has to go to the Giants.

Betting Edge: San Francisco Giants

Saturday, 9:05 PM ET – Chris Capuano (8-7, 4.19) vs. Tim Lincecum (6-7, 3.14)

Hands up if you would have thought that Capuano would have more wins heading into the All-Star Break than Lincecum, the two-time Cy Young winner who is going to the Midsummer Classic for the fourth time? Well, that is the case as Capuano has been on fire lately, winning five of his last seven starts, and he’s been getting some good run support as well. However, he’s struggled against the Giants, going 1-4 in nine games (five starts) with a 5.31 ERA, and 0-3 in four games (two starts) at AT&T Park with an ERA of 6.11. On the other hand, Lincecum is 2-1 in six starts against the Mets with a 3.07 ERA, but he’s been shaky at home, going 2-3 in eight starts with a 3.99 ERA.

You would think that Lincecum would be the surefire favorite here, and the Giants probably will get the edge in your sportsbook, but “The Freak” hasn’t been himself lately and remember, he went through a similar swoon last year. It’s not enough to be worried about just yet, but keep an eye on Lincecum. Look for Capuano to end his jinx in San Francisco on Saturday night.

Betting Edge: New York Mets

Sunday, 8:05 PM ET – Mike Pelfrey (5-7, 4.64) vs. Matt Cain (7-5, 3.22)

Cain is the final of the All-Star starters for the Giants, reaching the Game for the second time in his career, and he has been up and down as of late, allowing five runs in three of his last 10 starts, but among those starts, he has also allowed one run or less five times. The 26-year-old righty is 4-3 in eight starts against the Mets with an ERA of 4.03, but he is 4-2 in eight home starts with a 2.81 ERA. Pelfrey has also been inconsistent recently, but he did toss six scoreless innings in his last start in Los Angeles, and he has come to be something of a road warrior as five of Pelfrey’s six starts have come outside of New York. The 27-year-old is 2-1 in five starts against the Giants with a 2.04 ERA, and he has lost his lone start in San Francisco, giving up a pair of runs in a 2-0 loss in 2009.

Like Lincecum, Cain is one of the worst in the National League when it comes to run support, but he’s been great at home this season, and Pelfrey has been on the road for a while. Do not expect a high-scoring affair in this one, but take the Giants to eke out a close win in your sports betting book.
