3 MLB Predictions For Games On Wednesday

Posted by Dale "Skip" Lalonde on 4/2/2013 8:56:25 PM

Game 1: Detroit Tigers @ Minnesota Twins - Wednesday, April 3

When people in the online sports betting legal realm assess this game, they'll lean to the Tigers. Even football betting gurus who don't ordinarily follow baseball probably figure that Detroit will be able to fend off Minnesota here.
Everyone figured coming into the year that between Miguel Cabrera and Prince Fielder, the Tigers would have no issue scoring runs. Yet while the Tigers’ figures ranked relatively favorably, the reality is that the team never lived up to the home run-hitting juggernaut it was expected to be. Cabrera and Fielder carried a lot of the weight on the team, more so than they were expected to in the spring. Yet, 2013 welcomes Torii Hunter to the club as well as Victor Martinez, who is back from an injury that sidelined him for all of 2012.

The additions of Hunter and Martinez to this year's lineup should make Detroit's bats so much better than they were in 2012. The Tigers should be able to get to Minnesota starting pitcher Kevin Correia in this game. They should also feel comfortable about having Anibal Sanchez on the mound, especially since Sanchez pitched well in the 2012 postseason, including cold-weather situations in both New York (the American League Championship Series against the Yankees) and Detroit (the World Series against San Francisco).

MLB Betting Pick: Detroit

Game 2: Kansas City Royals @ Chicago White Sox - Wednesday, April 3

If you were to liken this baseball battle to any poker games you might participate in from time to time, you would have to say that the White Sox have the better dealer on the mound. Jake Peavy turned in a very solid season for the White Sox in 2012, enabling Chicago to remain competitive in the American League Central Division until the final week of the season. Peavy isn't quite as durable as he used to be with the San Diego Padres, but he's still a formidable pitcher who knows how to get outs. Ervin Santana, Kansas City's starter in this contest, can be brilliant at times, but he has proved to be noticeably erratic in recent seasons, and that's why he's no longer a member of the Los Angeles Angels' starting rotation. Santana is more on the downslope of his career in comparison to Peavy. In the first start for each man in the 2013 regular season, one should trust Peavy, especially at home.

MLB Betting Pick: Chicago White Sox

Game 3: Texas Rangers @ Houston Astros - Wednesday, April 3

What jumps out at a baseball student in this game is that much as Texas turned onetime bullpen specialist Neftali Feliz into a starter last season, the Rangers are now doing the same thing with Alexi Ogando, who will get the start in this game agaisnt Houston's Philip Humber. It's hard to tell how Ogando will perform as a first-week starter. This is new territory for him. However, expect Texas' bats to get to Humber and give Ogando the cushion he needs. As long as Ogando gets a few runs in his pocket, he can remain calm and throw strikes, paving the way for a Ranger victory over the Astros, the American League's new team this season.

MLB Betting Pick: Texas
