Rematch Of The 2011 World Series Stands Out On The Friday Night Slate

Posted by Dale “Skip” Lalonde – Major League Baseball Betting Analyst on 6/20/2013 7:49:09 PM

The 2011 World Series between the Texas Rangers and the St. Louis Cardinals captured the imagination of baseball fans throughout the United States. The teams reunite on Friday.

Game 1: Texas Rangers @ St. Louis Cardinals – Friday, June 21

A sound sports betting play will probably back the Rangers in this contest. This game, as you know, is a reunion of the teams that contested the 2011 World Series, with the Cardinals prevailing in seven games after being down to their very last strike in Game 6, only to produce clutch hits to prolong the game and then win it in the 11th inning. One of the current members of the Texas Rangers who was on that 2011 team is Derek Holland, the man who will start this game on Friday for Texas. Holland starred in Game 4, shutting down St. Louis one day after the Cardinals crushed the Rangers in Game 3 with 16 runs. Holland made a lot of money in that World Series. He built his career and enhanced his reputation. He figures to be locked in and supremely focused for this game on Friday night, giving Texas a very good chance to win. The other part of this equation – one which also points in the Rangers’ favor – is that St. Louis will not send one of its aces to counter Holland. Adam Wainwright and Shelby Miller will not be available in this game; Cardinal manager Mike Matheny is giving the ball to unproven starter Tyler Lyons, who owns a 4.65 ERA and can’t be seen as someone who is likely to hold down Texas’ bats. Lyons could thrive in this game, but a smart bettor wouldn’t want to take that kind of a risk. The Rangers are certainly the smarter and more sensible play in this situation.

MLB Betting Pick: Texas

Game 2: Cincinnati Reds @ Arizona Diamondbacks – Friday, June 21

Excellence catches the eye of all human beings, whether they are mma betting specialists or horse betting students. Cincinnati starting pitcher Johnny Cueto, who will take the bump in this game on Friday night in Phoenix, has been injured for portions of this season, but when he’s pitched, he’s been excellent. Cueto carries a microscopic 2.08 ERA into this tilt, while his counterpart, Arizona starting pitcher Wade Miley, checks in with a rather pedestrian 4.64 ERA. If you’re a betting player who wants to get in on the action for this game, which way would you go? There are no guarantees in any one baseball game, but this choice seems clear. Cueto and the Reds deserve the nod.

MLB Betting Pick: Cincinnati

Game 3: Los Angeles Dodgers @ San Diego Padres – Friday, June 21

When people in the online sports betting legal realm size up this game, they should agree that the odds should be tilted to the Dodgers. Los Angeles has performed quite poorly to this point in the season, but the Dodgers have been injured at multiple positions and are finally beginning to regain a measure of health. It would be hard to imagine that this team won’t be able to make a run at some point in this season. The Dodgers also know that the San Diego Padres have made a run of their own and have to be taken seriously. This backdrop sets the stage for the battle between two Claytons, Dodger starter Clayton Kershaw and Padre starter Clayton Richard. It’s true that Richard is a very solid pitcher, but Kershaw is in another league. Expect Kershaw to be at his best in this game, leading Los Angeles to the winner’s circle.

MLB Betting Pick: Los Angeles Dodgers
