Central Time Zone Games Feature Mismatches And Struggling Pitchers

Posted by Dale "Skip" Lalonde on 6/10/2013 7:32:24 PM

It is shocking to see Matt Garza and Cole Hamels arriving at the middle third of the month of June with earned-run averages over four runs, but here we are. Will either pitcher bounce back?

Game 1: Cincinnati Reds @ Chicago Cubs – Tuesday, June 11

Betting lines should favor the Reds here. Cincinnati’s Tony  Cingrani totes a perfectly solid and respectable 3.27 ERA to the hill in this contest, giving his team a very good chance of remaining competitive heading into the final three innings at the very least. The focus of this game, though, will be Chicago starter Matt Garza, a former member of the Tampa Bay Rays team that , in 2008, reached the World Series before losing to the Philadelphia Phillies.

Garza was seen at one time as a top-tier starting pitcher, but with an ERA of 4.03 in the National League, it has to be said that Garza has not performed up to his standards or expectations. Yes, he pitches in home games at Wrigley Field, which is a terrible park for pitchers, but someone with Garza’s chops should be able to find a way to get an ERA under 3.50 at the very least. Will Garza be able to right the ship in this game against Cincinnati?

The Reds have one of the better and deeper lineups in the National League. They attack pitchers and make them pay for mistakes. Garza could be great on any one night, but Cincinnati is likely to frustrate him and carry the balance of play. Take the Reds over the Cubs on Tuesday.

MLB Betting Pick: Cincinnati

Game 2: Philadelphia Phillies @ Minnesota Twins – Tuesday, June 11

When the horse betting aficionados of America take a break from the just-completed Triple Crown races and look for a betting diversion in a different sport, they might look at this game due to the fascinating nature of the pitching matchup. You would not have begun this season thinking that Minnesota starter P.J. Walters would have better numbers than Cole Hamels in the middle of June, but that’s the reality of the situation.

Walters has been one of Minnesota’s best starters this season, producing a solid ERA of exactly three runs in over two months of work. Walters has given the Twins the steady kind of performance the team has lacked elsewhere in its starting rotation. Hamels, once an ace-level pitcher on a Philadelphia staff that was full of them, has fallen behind teammate Cliff Lee and is no longer pitching anywhere near the level of a true stopper. Hamels has a 4.56 ERA and is trying to find himself. Hamels could flip the “on” switch at any time, but Walters has to be given more respect from a betting standpoint. Take the Twins.

MLB Betting Pick: Minnesota

Game 3: Cleveland Indians @ Texas Rangers – Tuesday, June 11

In the MMA betting community, it is known that power matters a great deal, and in this game, the power hitting of the Texas Rangers should make them the choice over the Cleveland Indians. Cleveland’s pitching got roughed up over the weekend by a similarly potent Detroit Tiger lineup. Cleveland’s starters are faltering, and that’s why the Tribe entered Monday, June 10 with a seven-game losing streak. It would be unwise to go for the upset pick here – play it safe and trust the Rangers to thump the Indians at home in Arlington, Tex.

MLB Betting Pick: Texas
