Orioles Yankees Betting – Bronx Bombers Continue Home Dominance Against Orioles

Expect online betting odds to favor the New York Yankees in their upcoming four-game series against Baltimore, as the Orioles have won just four of their last 20 trips to the Bronx. The Orioles will be fortunate to sneak away with a victory as the Yankees look to keep pace with Boston in the American League East.

  • What: MLB Betting
  • When: Friday, July 29th-Sunday, July 31st
  • Where: Yankee Stadium, New York, NY
  • Pick: New York Yankees

(All pitching matchups are tentative)

Friday, 7:05 PM ET – Jeremy Guthrie (4-14, 4.33) vs. A.J. Burnett (8-8, 4.21)

Guthrie has been having issues with control lately, walking at least four batters in three of his last seven starts, and the Yankees aren’t a good matchup for the 32-year-old, who is 3-9 in 16 games (14 starts) against the Bronx Bombers after one relief inning against them this year. He has also lost all three of his starts at the new Yankee Stadium, posting an ERA of 6.41. Meanwhile, Burnett has been a career-long study in control problems and he currently leads the American League in walks, but playing the Orioles has been good to the 34-year-old, who is 12-4 in 19 starts against Baltimore with a 4.54 ERA. Burnett is also 6-5 in 13 home starts this year with an ERA of 4.14, but he has allowed 11 homers at the new Cathedral, including two to Baltimore in a win back in April.

This could be a high-scoring game as both pitchers have a tendency to give the opponents multiple scoring opportunities, but you have to take the New York offense to drive in a few more runs to snatch the MLB betting victory.

Betting Edge: New York Yankees

Saturday, 1:05 PM ET – Zach Britton (6-7, 4.05) vs. Bartolo Colon (7-6, 3.29)

Britton returns after a trip to the minor leagues, and the rookie fared well against the Yankees in his major-league debut, allowing a run (not earned) over seven innings; however, there has been more tape for the Yankees to view and it seems that teams have caught up to the 23-year-old, so he has to make adjustments, especially on the road where he is 2-4 in eight starts with an ERA of 6.02. Colon made his MLB debut back in 1997, when Britton was nine years old, and he has bounced back with a couple of strong outings after getting roughed up in Toronto. Two no-decisions against the Orioles this year has taken his record to 10-7 in 22 games (21 starts) when facing Baltimore, posting a 3.30 ERA.

Colon is still a risky MLB betting pick, but he’s no riskier than taking a rookie who is just coming back up to the major leagues. We’ll lean towards the Yankees in the first half of this doubleheader.

Betting Edge: New York Yankees

Saturday, 7:00 PM ET – Jake Arrieta (9-7, 5.02) vs. Freddy Garcia (9-7, 3.23)

Arrieta has managed to come away with a pair of no-decisions against the Yankees this season, and he is now 2-0 in four career starts with a 4.07 ERA when facing the Orioles’ East rivals. The 25-year-old is also 1-0 in two starts at Yankee Stadium with a 3.65 ERA, and those are great numbers for a young pitcher taking on one of the most powerful lineups in baseball. Garcia has been typically steady all season and you could argue that he has been the best pitcher in New York outside of C.C. Sabathia. He is 4-7 in 13 starts against the Orioles with a 4.15 ERA, and the 35-year-old is 6-4 in 10 home starts with a 3.59 ERA.

If the Orioles are going to steal a game in the Bronx this weekend, this is the game in which they’ll do it. Arrieta actually leads the American League in run support, even though the Orioles were blanked in his last start. Take a flier on Baltimore in the nightcap.

Betting Edge: Baltimore Orioles

Sunday, 1:05 PM ET - Alfredo Simon (2-3, 4.08) vs. C.C. Sabathia (14-5, 2.62)

Simon is being eased into the rotation, but be sure to confirm that he will be starting this game as he will also start on Wednesday in Toronto, which means he would be pitching on four days’ rest and manager Buck Showalter may not feel comfortable with that. The 30-year-old is 0-1 in four games (one start) against the Yankees with a save and a 5.63 ERA, and he has just one inning of work under his belt at Yankee Stadium. He’ll have his hands full against the Oriole Killer: Sabathia has a pair of wins against the Orioles in 2011, taking his career mark to 16-2 in 22 starts with a 2.74 ERA, and he is 6-2 in 11 starts at home with a 3.02 ERA. He still has to pitch on Tuesday, but it’s at home against the light-hitting Seattle Mariners.

You would be insane to go against Sabathia, who had given up four runs in six starts (47.2 innings) ahead of Tuesday’s start, and if the Orioles could pull it out, it would be a massive sports betting upset.
