A Travel-Game Dynamic And Two Interleague Encounters Highlight The Tuesday Menu

Posted by Dale "Skip" Lalonde on 4/15/2013 7:21:03 PM

The Tampa Bay Rays are having to deal with some unusual game-time situations in this early portion of the season, while interleague play heats up this week as well.

Game 1: Tampa Bay Rays @ Baltimore Orioles – Tuesday, April 16

Even the ranks of online football betting students who simply can’t be bothered to do much of any analysis on Major League Baseball, it would seem that the Baltimore Orioles are in a good position to win this specific game on this specific night against the Tampa Bay Rays. The pitching matchup is worth noting only because the Rays don’t have one of their elite pitchers on the hill. Roberto Hernandez will get the ball from manager Joe Maddon, while Jake Arrieta gets the call from Baltimore manager Buck Showalter. That’s a toss-up on the raw merits.

What’s worth exploring with respect to this matchup is that Tampa Bay’s collective body clock could very well be thrown off by the time it gets to Baltimore for the start of this series. The Rays did not play Friday due to weather. They had to play an early-afternoon game on Saturday and Sunday and then get up to play an 11:05 a.m. game on Monday, due to the fact that the Boston Red Sox always host a Patriots Day (Monday morning) game in conjunction with the Boston Marathon.

The Rays have to deal with an earlybird start and then turn around to play a night game. Moreover, Tampa Bay will wind up going more than four full days without having played a night game. It all seems like a setup for an off night at the office. Baltimore is the pick that makes more sense.

MLB Betting Pick: Baltimore

Game 2: Arizona Diamondbacks @ New York Yankees - Tuesday, April 16

Legal online sports betting experts know that it’s not usual for interleague play to swing into high gear in April, but that’s a feature of the 2013 big-league season. The schedule is trotting out multiple interleague series this week, and one such confrontation pits the Diamondbacks against the Yankees in a rematch of the 2001 World Series. Brandon McCarthy is the starting pitcher for Arizona in this contest, while Andy Pettitte goes to the hill for the Yankees.

Pettitte is still going strong after nearly two decades as a big-league pitcher. He still knows how to locate his pitches and work corners, making him a respected and even slightly feared presence on the mound. McCarthy cannot hope to match Pettitte’s overall expertise. New York rates as a strong favorite in this game.

MLB Betting Pick: New York Yankees

Game 3: Kansas City Royals @ Atlanta Braves - Tuesday, April 16

In online poker games and in baseball, the presence of the dealer looms large, and in this clash, Atlanta definitely has the better one. Jeremy Guthrie is the starter for the Royals, while the Braves counter with Kris Medlen, who was merely the best pitcher in the National League for an eight-week stretch last season. Atlanta has had a better start than any other MLB team this season. It would be foolish to take the Royals here; go with the Braves.

MLB Betting Pick: Atlanta
