Tigers White Sox Betting Tips - White Sox And Tigers Meet With A.L. Central On The Line

Posted by Dale "Skip" Lalonde on 9/9/2012 6:06:19 PM

The Detroit Tigers and Chicago White Sox appear likely to carry their American League Central Division race to the final few days of the regular season. A huge series awaits in Chicago.

Detroit Tigers @ Chicago White Sox - Monday, September 10
Sport betting line: No line

Why Detroit Will Win

This is pure high-stakes poker, and the Detroit Tigers are ready to sit at the table. Detroit has swept the White Sox in each of the last two series the teams have played. Chicago hitters have not looked comfortable at the plate against the Tigers in those series. Detroit's pitching has been inconsistent this year outside of staff ace Justin Verlander, but the Tigers' other starters – Max Scherzer and Doug Fister – have held their own against the Pale Hose. Rick Porcello is Detroit's starter in this contest. He has to know what he's seen in the last two series between these teams. Porcello should take the mound with confidence and deliver the kind of performance manager Jim Leyland expects from him.

The other reason to take the Tigers is that their best hitters have performed well against the White Sox. Everyone knows that Miguel Cabrera and Prince Fielder have done their jobs for the Tigers this season, but two hitters who have largely struggled for Detroit in 2012 – Delmon Young and Brennan Boesch – have collected several clutch hits against the White Sox in the past two months. Detroit doesn't necessarily win when Cabrera and Fielder hit well. The Tigers win when their big bats are joined by Young, Boesch, catcher Alex Avila, and infielder Jhonny Peralta. These players play well against the White Sox, and that's why the Tigers have such a good chance in this tilt.

Why Chicago Will Win

When the best online betting sites size up this game, they will calmly note that the White Sox have a clear edge in the pitching matchup. Porcello, referred to above, has a 4.58 earned-run average. Chicago starter Jose Quintana owns a much more impressive 3.68 ERA, almost a run better than Porcello. Playing at home and not in Detroit, Chicago should be able to change the competitive equation in this series. The White Sox have won only three of their last 21 games in Detroit, but they're not spooked by the Tigers at home in Chicago, where this series has been more competitive. The White Sox took two out of three from Detroit earlier in the season in the Windy City. In their home ballyard, the Sox should get better efforts from their hitters, who should be able to see the ball better against a familiar backdrop in center field. Moreover, Porcello's mediocrity means that White Sox batters are likely to get a few good pitches to hit. If they don't miss them, especially with runners in scoring position, Chicago should be able to score five or six runs, enough to win on most occasions.

Who Will Win

It’s possible that Detroit's momentum against Chicago will continue, but the Tigers have a losing record on the road this season, and that's something which can't be overlooked in this matchup. Pick the White Sox at home.
