Twins Indians Betting Tips - Indians Try To Steady Their Ship At Home

Posted by Dale "Skip" Lalonde on 5/29/2012 3:06:01 PM

The Cleveland Indians have wobbled in recent days, as they've watched a 3.5-game lead get trimmed to just half a game in the American League Central. They must rebound this weekend.

Minnesota Twins @ Cleveland Indians – Series Overview
Sports betting line: N/A

Game 1: Friday, June 1

When you visit the foremost betting sites around and attempt to make a studied, informed play on a Major League Baseball game, you will often need to avoid the temptation to overthink a given issue or matchup. Carl Pavano will take the bump for the Twins with an ugly and upward-moving 5.46 earned-run average. Pavano got whacked around by Detroit in his most recent start and is simply not projecting the body language of a confident or effective pitcher. Cleveland will counter with veteran journeyman Derek Lowe, a proven sinkerball pitcher who gets a lot of ground balls and has therefore made himself into a substantial asset for the Tribe.

Lowe carries a 3.25 ERA into this game, a terrific mark for the American League, given that the junior circuit is home to the designated hitter and, as a consequence, a higher-scoring brand of baseball. Lowe should be able to contain a weak-hitting Minnesota lineup, and the Tribe should be able to scratch together a handful of runs against Pavano, paving the way for a Cleveland win on Friday in game one of this series.

MLB Betting Pick: Cleveland

Game 2: Saturday, June 2

When looking at this game, the various factors being considered are likely to lean in favor of Minnesota because of starting pitching. Whereas game one of this series offered a confrontation that tilted toward the Tribe's side of the ledger, Saturday's second installment of this weekend series is shaped in a way that favors the Twins. Cleveland will go with Ubaldo Jimenez, a once-overpowering pitcher three seasons ago with the Colorado Rockies who has become a shell of his former self in recent years. Jimenez pitched poorly for Cleveland last year after coming to the Tribe from Colorado, and he hasn't been appreciably better this season, if at all. Jimenez sports a not-very-impressive 5.79 earned-run average. Meanwhile, Minnesota starter P.J. Walters owns a very solid 2.95 ERA entering this contest. There are close pitching matchups, and there are lopsided pitching matchups. This one doesn't look particularly close. The Indians are the better team, but they'll fall to the Twins on Saturday evening in the state of Ohio.

MLB Betting Pick: Minnesota

Game 2: Sunday, June 3

When looking at this game, you will ultimately conclude that the prevailing sportsbook dynamics work in favor of Cleveland, albeit by a small margin and for atypical reasons.
Cleveland will go with starter Josh Tomlin, whose 4.67 earned-run average is anything but special, but whose numbers are the result of a full season's worth of work. Meanwhile, Minnesota starter Scott Diamond has compiled a razor-thin 1.78 ERA, but he has done so in only four starts, encompassing only one month of work, whereas Tomlin has pitched for two months. Diamond is likely to be exposed sooner rather than later. The Indians will get to Diamond and outscore the Twins in a 9-6 kind of contest.

MLB Betting Pick: Cleveland
