Heat Look To Conquer Southeast Again En Route To Another Title Run

Posted by Craig Parsons on 2/11/2014 2:06:58 AM

The Miami Heat have dominated not only the Southeast division but the entire NBA in back-to-back seasons, and there is little doubt about which team is the online sports betting favorite to win the Southeast as they take aim at a third-straight NBA title. LeBron James has taken his game to a whole new level, and the Heat has surrounded him with a solid supporting cast that can take advantage of his strengths and get the job done at the highest level. So with Miami finishing at the top of the Southeast, where do the other teams stand heading in to this season?

Miami Heat

The Heat added Greg Oden in hopes that he can give them a big-man presence in the playoffs when they go for a third-straight NBA title, and there is no denying it is worth the minimal risk. Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh will need to stay healthy once again, but this is Lebron’s team and there is no reason to think they won’t win the division barring a devastating injury to the league’s biggest superstar.

Washington Wizards

The Wizards were a much better online betting team with John Wall in the line up last year, and they could be a little better with the emergence of Bradley Beal and arrival of Al Harrington. Washington doesn’t have the weapons to challenge Miami in the division and there may not be a team in the NBA that does, but Wall continues to get better and the Wizards have several key young pieces that continue to develop.

Atlanta Hawks

The Hawks have a much different look this year after saying goodbye to a number of players including Josh Smith and Devin Harris, bringing in Jared Cunningham, Kyle Korver, and Elton Brand to help make up for what they lost. Atlanta has been a second-tier team for too many years to count, and while there was plenty of offseason activity, it’s hard to project whether this team will be that much better or worse than they were last sports betting season.

Charlotte Bobcats

The Bobcats didn’t waste any time chasing a big name add in the offseason, signing Al Jefferson and then resigning Gerald Henderson. Jefferson gives them that frontcourt star that can dominate at times and is comfortable at both ends of the floor, while Henderson helps compliment the emerging Michael Kidd-Gilchrist. Kemba Walker has excellent offensive skills, but he must be better at the defensive end. The arrival of Jefferson should help take some of the pressure off of Kidd-Gilchrist and Walker and allow them to develop at a faster pace.

Orlando Magic

The arrival of Rookie of the Year candidate Victor Oladipo through the draft is a good start, but the Magic enter their 25th season stuck in a rebuild rather than in position to contend for the playoffs. It could be a long year in Orlando without a superstar player and not much depth, but Oladipo will give the home fans something to look forward to every game, and there is some support around him with Jameer Nelson and Arron Afflalo, so long as they aren’t moved early on.
