2014 NBA Betting – The West Will Try To Beat Indiana, Miami, And Some Others

Posted by Craig Parsons on 2/13/2014 7:52:01 PM

For this year’s NBA All-Star Game, the dynamics of the event will be (or at least feel) a little bit different from the norm. Why? Look at the Eastern Conference’s makeup this season.

2014 NBA All-Star Game – New Orleans
East vs. West – Sunday, February 16
Online sports betting line: West -6

Why The East Will Win

While it’s true that the Eastern Conference doesn’t have a lot of really good teams this season, the East boasts two of the three best teams in professional basketball, with the Miami Heat and Indiana Pacers joining the Oklahoma City Thunder at the top of the league. The anticipated Eastern Conference Finals series between Miami and Indiana could very well be the showcase event of the playoffs, even more than the NBA Finals in the eyes of a lot of experts. Because the Heat and Pacers have established such a high standard this season, the five players from the two teams (three from Miami, two from Indiana) are going to make the Eastern Conference very hard to deal with in this game.

When NBA basketball betting students look at Sunday night’s clash in New Orleans, they’re going to see LeBron James and Paul George on the same team. They’re going to see Roy Hibbert and Chris Bosh on the same team, with Dwyane Wade also on the East’s roster. That’s a powerful accumulation of talent. Players who are likely to tear at each other in late May will all be on the same side in this game. The chance to play together could very easily bring out the very best in the East, giving the role players (Paul Millsap, DeMar DeRozan, Joakim Noah, and others) a chance to feel relaxed and comfortable on the court. One can envision a scenario in which the East plays with a lot of cohesion and comfort in this game, and if that’s indeed the case, the weaker conference in terms of overall depth might still win the All-Star showcase.

Why The West Will Win

When people in the online betting legal realm take a closer look at this contest, they’re going to take note of two realities in particular: First, Dwyane Wade has missed Miami’s last few games before the All-Star break with headaches and other impairments. Wade probably won’t get a lot of playing time in this game, especially since the East’s coach is Indiana boss Frank Vogel. The Miami organization is going to make sure that Wade doesn’t get overextended, and Vogel would not want to harm the Heat in advance of the East Finals, risking a wrathful response from the defending champions.

The other reality that betting experts are going to zoom in on is that the West just has more quality throughout its roster. Chris Paul and Tony Parker, plus Dirk Nowitzki and LaMarcus Aldridge, bring so much production to the West’s lineup, whereas Millsap, DeRozan and Noah are not in the same class as scorers. This is an offense-based game, and that plays to the West’s strengths.

Who Will Win

This is going to be a game in which the East might stay close for two and a half quarters, but as the event moves along, the East will get tired and the West’s deeper bench will take over.
