Bynum’s Future A Hot Topic As 76ers Visit Cleveland This Friday

Posted by Craig Parsons on 3/27/2013 5:46:04 PM

When the Philadelphia 76ers traded for Andrew Bynum, it was in an effort to bolster their chances of contending in the Eastern Conference. Fast-forward a few months, and the 76ers are eight games back of the final playoff spot, Bynum has yet to make his 76ers’ debut, and there is a very good chance he could choose to leave town as a free agent this offseason having never played a single game for Philadelphia. The 76ers are focused on one sports betting game at a time continuing this Friday when they visit the Cleveland Cavaliers, a team still trying to build a contender three years after Lebron James left town.

The Cavaliers already have several key pieces to build around in Kyrie Irving, Anderson Varejeo, Tristan Thompson, and rookie Dion Waiters, but the problem is that those players have spent most of the season on the sidelines injured. Cleveland will once again have one of the worst records in the East, but can take solace in being on track to rebuild.

NBA Betting Preview: Philadelphia 76ers

Philadelphia has been one of the worst road teams in the NBA this season, winning just seven times in 33 tries as the visiting team. Bynum’s inability to play this year has cost the team in every aspect of the game, but particularly in terms of scoring and rebounding where the 76ers rank in the bottom-third of the association. Philadelphia has played good defense and when they have won games that has been a big part of it, but outside of Jrue Holiday the 76ers have not been able to consistently put up big offensive totals and that has torched their ability to contend this online betting season.

NBA Betting Preview: Cleveland Cavaliers

The Cavaliers have put up a good fight against several opponents this season, and while injuries have prevented them from contending for a playoff spot there is little doubt they have the chance to make a run if they can get healthy and add to a strong core. Irving is averaging 23 points per game and 5.7 assists when healthy, and Varejao averaged aleague-high 14.4 rebounds per game before he went down. Cleveland has been limited without those two in the lineup together, but they still average over 97 points per game and a handful of young players including Thompson and Waiters have been able to gain some valuable experience that will help them going forward.

NBA Betting Preview: Outlook & Pick

They won’t make the playoffs this year, and Bynum’s situation makes the future very murky for Philadelphia, but they are capable of beating an injury-riddled Cavaliers’ team and are playing with a sense or urgency as they look to close the gap between them and the final playoff spot in the East before the season ends. The 76ers will win this game, but the future definitely looks brighter in Cleveland at this point.
