Suns Lakers Betting – Lakers Length Will Carry Them Back To Finals

Posted by Craig Parsons on 5/11/2010 1:15:40 PM

The Phoenix Suns and Los Angeles Lakers both swept their opponents in the Western Conference semi-finals, which sets up and interesting conference finals. While most people expected the Lakers to be here, not many online betting cappers thought that the Suns would be their opponents. Overall, the Suns are short on depth, experience from their role players and size to win this series. And they also don’t have home court advantage.

The Story

The Lakers struggled with the Oklahoma City Thunder in round one but it has been nothing but smooth sailing since. Maybe that served as a wakeup call? The Lakers are peaking at the right time and their sweep and complete dominance of the Suns was impressive.

At the same time, the Suns have to be commended as well. It’s hard to trust their depth when they have names like Goran Dragic, Jared Dudley and Channing Frye, but the Suns are also peaking at the right team and they could be the team of destiny in the NBA this year. They nearly tore it all down and shipped off Amare Stoudemire at the trade deadline but boy are they happy they didn’t pull the trigger on that move.

Suns vs Lakers: Better Starters?

The Lakers definitely have better starters and NBA betting fans know this is going to be evident all series long. The Suns have Steve Nash and Amare Stoudemire, but the Lakers can counter that with a superior tandem of Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol.

While that matchup is somewhat even, the rest of the starters is where the Lakers really take the cake. The Suns have Grant Hill, Jason Collins and Jason Richardson. Meanwhile, the Lakers counter with Derek Fisher, Ron Artest and Andrew Bynum.

Bynum should spank Collins – or Frye when he comes off the bench. Meanwhile, Fisher is a good defender and a clutch shooter while Artest will shutdown Richardson, just as he did Kevin Durant.

Edge: Lakers

Suns vs Lakers: Better Bench?

Once again, the Lakers have the edge off the bench too. The Suns have some cute parts in Dudley, Frye, Dragic and occasionally Barbosa, who has become pretty much useless to them, but they don’t have anyone that you know you can trust in the conference finals.

The Lakers have Lamar Odom, who was nearly the sixth man of the year, Luke Walton, Jordan Farmar and Shannon Brown.

Odom is the best player off the bench for either team, which gives the Lakers the edge.

Edge: Lakers

Suns vs Lakers: X-Factor?

The x-factor in this series will be if the Suns can score in a slowed-down, half court game.

We all know that the Lakers can score in a run-and-gun style and work their defense and half court offense in a slow pace, but can the Suns match them?

The biggest downfall for the Suns is that they simply were not tailored to play playoff basketball. In round one, Portland showed that they can be vulnerable in a slowed-down pace but the Suns still ran them over. They eventually ran over the Spurs too. They won’t be able to do that to the Lakers who are more versatile so for the Suns to win, they’ll have to prove that they be effective in a half court offense as well.

Who’s Gonna Win?

The Lakers were 3-1 against the Suns in the regular season with their three wins coming by an average of 15 points per game. They have home court advantage, they have the depth, they have better coaching and better starters. The Suns have impressed but sports betting fans shouldn’t expect them to beat the Lakers.
