Betting NBA Basketball – Quirky Schedule

Posted by Brian Mulligan on 2/6/2014 9:54:13 PM

Before online sports betting players get overly involved this season, it might be wise to look at how the scheduling of the game this season is extremely unusual.

The grinding of the season started for the Los Angeles Lakers right off the bat as they had to play three straight game in a row to open the season, all without the 6th Man of the Year last season in Lamar Odom and without Andrew Bynum, who was suspended.

The San Antonio Spurs are used to long road trips but this season they will be put to task with a 9-game room service trip. The Chicago Bulls are also being tested after having the best regular season record last year. The Bulls also will play 9 straight on the road.

Three weak teams will be given a chance to thrive at home with 9-game stands. They are the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Sacramento Kings and the Denver Nuggets. This is the first time in over a decade a team has been home for that long a period of time.

The schedule makers did not make it easy on the Kings as far as competition is concerned as they opened the season with 7 straight games against teams that made the playoffs last season. By the time that 5th or 6th game comes around, the young Kings just might be bushed.

Online sportsbook players have to research and see if the last shortened season can offer some light on the upcoming result.

Veterans thrived in the last lockout in 1998-99 as the 9 oldest teams in the league made the playoffs and the 4 teams with the best records were all tough in the post season.

This kind of makes sense as the guys that have been around, know what their bodies need to thrive where as the younger players are still trying to figure all that stuff out.

Back-to-back games will be the order of the day this season with 42 instances and nearly a third of the league will have to play back-to-back-to-back games twice.

Expect the younger teams to excel with this compressed schedule as in the prior lockout, older teams like the Spurs, Magic and Pacers all had losing records when having to play twice within 48 hours.

In the early sport betting online action so far, a couple of the younger teams showed great promise. The Denver Nuggets scored in bunches to whip the defending champs by over 20 points and the up start Minnesota Timberwolves gave the Oklahoma Thunder all they could handle the other night.

The Wolves could not hold down Kevin Durant or Russell Westbrook in their first match up of the season but they put a lid on the rest of the team. That super pair had 61 of the 104 points but the rest of the squad struggled.

The bright spot for Minnesota was the play of bench players Ricky Rubio and J.J. Barea. They came off the pine to score 20, dole out 8 assists and picked up 7 bounds combined.

Add that kind of production nightly to an in shape Michael Beasley and double/double machine Kevin Love, and Minnesota figures to thrive against the spread this year.

Players will need to play serious attention to how the games are spaced this season.
