Betting NBA Basketball - Rookies That Make A Diffrence

Posted by Brian Mulligan on 2/10/2014 4:20:54 AM

There have been some solid rookies this year in the National Basketball Association but for online sports betting enthusiasts, it’s time to isolate the guys that make a difference against the spread.

Let’s first look at the West and the Denver Nuggets. Kenneth Faried, at 6 foot, 8 inches, has fit very nicely in the Denver way of doing things.

He was expected to get big minutes from the get go but when Nene came back, he was forced to learn from the bench.

The Morehead State product was the first player ever to be named Defensive Player of the Year in the Ohio Valley Conference three times. He brings good energy to the game on both sides of the ball and in his senior year lead the nation in double-doubles and finished his career just one double-double behind the all-time Division 1 leader, a guy named Tim Duncan. The betting sites like his potential.

A monster off the glass, he scored in double-digits in four of his last 5 games including a 14-rebound game against Minnesota. He has a bright future in this league and is one of the secret reasons that Denver covered 20 of their first 35 games despite being injured at nearly every position.

It’s been a rough year in the Valley of the Sun but the Phoenix Suns can at least point to one bright spot, rookie Markieff Morris. Selected 13th overall, the Kansas product has a pro body at 6 foot, 10 inches and nearly 250 pounds.

He led the Big 12 in rebounding his final year and he has transitioned well. He finishes big, has a number of moves in the post, and will get more minutes as he improves his jump shot. With a house cleaning possible in Phoenix, look for them to build with this kid down the road.

Despite only winning 11 games in the first half, the Sacramento Kings covered 17 and have played well to some quality teams in the losses.

Isiah Thomas, no relation to the Hall of Famer, has emerged as a serviceable point guard for the Kings and he will only improve. The second round pick from Washington is quick as a cat, made first team All Pac-10 and decided to skip his senior season.

He is a gifted passer but can also play the two guard if need be. He is not scared of taking the big shot and will improve once he learns to shoot better off the dribble.

Since starting, Thomas has produced. He averaged 20 points, 5 boards and nearly 7 assists in his first 3 starts including a near triple double in Cleveland. Just like the Knicks, the Kings were missing a point guard but not any longer.

Ricky Rubio is one of the major reasons that Minnesota covered 19 of first 34 games. Like a lot of young guards, he needs to work on his shot but he has skills, the kind that come around once every decade or so. It will be a learning curve as far as taking care of the rock but with this kid and Kevin Love, the Timberwolves have two solid pieces to cornerstone their franchise for years.

A word has to go out to the Miami Heat’s Norris Cole. Despite being a popular team that will get bet, the Heat was a plus two ATS the first half of the season and Cole was a part of that product.

The Cleveland State guy averaged 21 in college, is a strong defender, has range, and can pull up and hit shots too. He’s a teachable kid that should be able to grow with the stars on this team and he is averaging 8 a game despite playing only 21 minutes a contest. Expect Cole to have a huge role for Miami when the going really gets tough in the playoffs.

Remember; keep an eye on individual performances as to how they relate to covering the sportsbooks number.
