Betting On Heat Celtics - Heat Try To Regain A Winning Edge In Beantown

The 2012 NBA basketball season is careening toward the finish line. Both the Miami Heat and the Boston Celtics have something to play for. With Miami, the challenge is more internal.

Why Miami Will Win

No one will examine this NBA contest and come away thinking that the Miami Heat are done. Last season, the Heat struggled late in the season, but that just didn't matter. The team regrouped in the playoffs and put together a strong postseason run, falling just short of the Dallas Mavericks in a hard-fought NBA Finals series. Miami is not playing its best basketball of the year, but the Heat – just like everyone else in this compressed 66-game regular-season schedule, are trying to pace themselves amidst the rigors and demands of frequent travel. They're not succeeding, to be honest, but they still have the ability to right the ship.

Miami lost back-to-back road games in the final week of March, and moreover, the Heat lost both of those games – at Oklahoma City on Sunday and then at Indiana on Monday – by double-digit margins. That's a very rare occurrence for a team with Dwyane Wade, LeBron James, and Chris Bosh on its roster. Some would see this as an indication that the Heat are fading, but every team in the league will fall flat for patches of time. The Heat know that they need to elevate their level of play, and this game – on national network television on Sunday afternoon – should give coach Erik Spoelstra's team the incentive it needs to play with greater passion, especially at the defensive end of the floor.
Both Oklahoma City and Indiana ripped through Miami's defense and pounded the Heat on the offensive glass. Boston – with its age and its lack of above-the-rim-type players – is a better sportsbooks matchup for Miami. The Heat should be able to lock down the Celtics and pull out of New England with a course-correcting win.

Why Boston Will Win

When you do your homework and assess your sports bet on this game, you just have to look at something very simple: The Boston Celtics, despite being one of the older teams in the National Basketball Association, have steadily made up ground in the Atlantic Division standings. They've caught the younger Philadelphia 76ers to rise to first place in the division. No, Boston's not at the top of the Eastern Conference – it's really Chicago and Miami followed by everybody else – but the essential insight here is that Boston is a very proud team, anchored by the core trio that brought the franchise its cherished 2008 NBA title. Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen, and Paul Pierce are not going to go gently into that good night. Held together by the current star of the team, point guard Rajon Rondo, the Garnett-Allen-Pierce trio is playing with a level of professional pride that's hard to overstate. The Celtics will give the Heat everything they want. Don't be surprised at all if Boston defends its home court on national television.

Who Will Win

It’s likely to be a close game, but the Heat simply have too many weapons to be outgunned by a slower Boston team. Miami's length on the perimeter should prove to be bothersome for Boston. Take the defending Eastern Conference champions on the road in New England.
