Betting On NBA Basketball – Taking A Look At This Weekend’s Hoops Action

Posted by Craig Parsons on 2/6/2014 9:58:33 PM

Online betting players are seeing some of the teams in the NBA shaking their rust off, but some are still playing like it is the summer and a few have been hit by injuries. Here are five games to check out over the weekend, beginning on Friday night with a matchup of two teams that have been connected via trade rumors.

(All stats and records as of Friday)

Magic Bulls Betting – Friday, 8:00 PM ET

While Orlando has said Dwight Howard is off the market, you have to think that they’ll still listen to offers and the Bulls are thought to be the best place for “Superman”, even though they were are 6-1 SU to start the season. The Bulls are 3-2 SU and ATS in their last five at the United Center against the Magic, with the last three games going over the posted total. The Bulls are only 1-1 ATS at home this season, while the Magic are 1-2 ATS on the road, and you have to stick with Chicago at home based on last year’s play and the fact that Chicago’s backcourt is much better than Orlando; they have the big guys up front to bother Howard.

Betting Edge: Chicago Bulls

Bulls Hawks Betting – Saturday, 7:00 PM ET

The Bulls will head out on the road on Saturday night and they could be the NBA betting underdogs in Atlanta, where the Hawks will be recovering after a triple-overtime loss to Miami on Thursday night in which they fell to a Heat team that was without LeBron James and Dwayne Wade. Chicago is 3-2 SU and ATS in their last five trips to Atlanta, with three games going over the posted total, and even though the Bulls play on Friday night, they’ll be a little lucky as Atlanta played three overtimes on Thursday, then in Charlotte on Friday and then the Bulls on Saturday. The schedule may be some teams’ biggest enemy this season, and that means the Bulls should win both of their weekend games.

Betting Edge: Chicago Bulls

Knicks Pistons Betting – Saturday, 7:30 PM ET

Both teams will be in action on Friday night on the road as the Knicks will be in Washington, while the Pistons visit Philadelphia, and it hasn’t looked good for the Knicks so far this season. Their offense has been brutal, which is what you didn’t expect and it’s because they don’t move the ball around; it’s a lot of Carmelo Anthony in isolation and then four guys standing around. The Pistons are in full-on rebuilding mode, but they managed to beat Indiana and Orlando at home before losing to the Bulls on Wednesday, also at home. The Knicks are 2-3 SU and ATS in their last five visits to the Motor City, with three games going under the posted total. This is going to be a close matchup between two bad teams, but Detroit’s defense wins out in an upset.

Betting Edge: Detroit Pistons

Spurs Thunder Betting – Sunday, 7:00 PM ET

The Spurs lost Manu Ginobili to a broken hand, and then they won a couple of home games over Golden State and Dallas, including a 22-point rout of the Mavericks. However, they host Denver on Saturday and this is a tough stretch for an older San Antonio team, although they are working some younger guys into the rotation. The Thunder have a home-and-home with Houston on Friday and Saturday before hosting the Spurs, who are 4-1 SU and ATS in their last five games in Oklahoma City, with three overs and a push in four of those games. You have to give the NBA betting edge to the young legs of the Thunder, even though they were 1-3 ATS at home heading into the weekend.

Betting Edge: Oklahoma City Thunder

Grizzlies Lakers Betting – Sunday, 9:30 PM ET

The Lakers are 4-1 SU and 3-2 ATS at home against the Grizzlies, who are wrapping up a three-game road trip which began with a win in Minnesota. Memphis is still trying to get used to not having Zach Randolph in the lineup as he’ll be out for a couple of months with a knee injury. The Lakers have been strong at the Staples Center, going 4-1 ATS in their first five games at home, while the Grizzlies are 1-2 ATS on the road. Memphis’ schedule is actually decent for them as they have a day in between games, while the Lakers also have Saturday off after back-to-back games, but taking the Grizzlies in Los Angeles isn’t a risk that we’re willing to take. Go with the Lakers in your sports betting picks.

Betting Edge: Los Angeles Lakers
