Betting On NBA Finals - Adjustments

Posted by Brian Mulligan on 2/6/2014 9:46:36 PM

They say an NBA series doesn’t start until the home team loses but after every contest, online betting sites hoop speculators have to adjust their thinking, just as every single NBA coach always has done.

It is pretty much just common sense. Something didn’t work in the first game of a series and coaches have to go back to the drawing board to find out why something didn’t work and what will work in the future.

Miami stayed perfect at home on Tuesday beating and covering online casino wagering against Dallas when they cashed by 8 points while dominating in the second half.

Dallas was up a point at half time, extended with a little run at the beginning of the third but the Heat rallied to take a three-point lead into the fourth stanza.

They extended to the lead to a dozen at one point and they pretty much had Dallas on their heels the entire night. One area that Dallas needs to improve on immediately is the offensive glass.

That is the one adjustment Dallas has to make if they want any chance of beating Miami.

When you allowed the opposing team at this time of the year to get multiple shots at the basket, that is a quick remedy for disaster.

Miami out rebounded Dallas by 10 and that was also the difference in the offensive rebounds. That tells the major reason behind the Dallas loss.

And 10 was also the number that the Miami bench outscored the reserves of Dallas.

All the sportsbook promo hype about Miami has been the big three of Chris Bosh, LeBron and D. Wade and they generally scored about 70% of the teams points nightly but what has been extremely underrated is their collective defense.

Dallas was held to 37% shooting from the floor and it wasn’t because they were off or just had bad nights. It was because they were swarmed by Miami when the Heat just flat-out went into lockdown mode.

When you consider that two of the Miami starters, Mike Bibby and Joel Anthony, didn’t even score, the win takes on a whole new meaning.

The game plan for Miami in the first game was obvious from the first possession. The ball went into Dirk Nowitzki early in the game and Joel Anthony was in his grill. He contested, he had his hands up, he bodied up to Dirk and that takes its toll in a 48-minute game.

That was just the start of the problems for Dallas.

Anthony only played 17 minutes but the venerable Juwan Howard gave them important minutes and Udonis Haslem was pitted against Dirk.

Haslem is the glue of the team. He does the little things, rebounds, screens, gets to loose balls, that doesn’t show in the box score but is often the difference between winning and losing.

Dallas opened the game with Deshawn Stevenson on LeBron and that’s a nice match up to start with. Dallas plays a tricky zone defense that attempts to force opponents into poor outside shots but slashers like LeBron and D. Wade have seen this before and know how to adjust.

Nowitzki has a torn tendon in his non-shooting hand and that is something he will have to deal with maybe more mentally than physically.

Defense wins championships. Simple as that. Miami was better than Dallas on D all year and if they continue to pump up the volume, they will be rewarded with the championship.

On Thursday, Miami is again a 4 and a half point favorite and they will cover and go to Dallas for Sunday’s game 2-0.
