The Heat Need LeBron And Bosh To Score At A Higher Rate If They Want To Win

The NBA Finals began on Thursday night with a terrific Game 1, especially for the San Antonio Spurs. The Miami Heat need to change a few aspects of the equation as the series continues.

2013 NBA Finals, Game 2:

San Antonio Spurs@ Miami Heat – Sunday, June 9

In the basketball-centriconline poker gamesthat unfold on hardwood slabs, it is important to have the right dealer, but it’s also important to know when to not deal. This describes the predicament facing the Miami Heat after their 92-88 loss to the San Antonio Spurs in Game 1 of the NBA Finals.

Legal online sports betting experts know that the Spurs have an elite dealer in point guard Tony Parker, who orchestrated San Antonio’s offense with great precision on Thursday night and who also hit the game’s defining shot, an improbable leaning bank shot from the right wing with 5.2 seconds left, to finish off the Heat. Parker, as a small but quick ballhandler, is a natural at directing traffic. He doesn’t need to be the one who shoots the ball most of the time in order for the Spurs to flourish. If he’s getting everyone else on his team involved, San Antonio is generally in very good shape.

The reality of things is very different for the Heat, however. Even the ranks of online football bettingstudents who simply can’t be bothered to do much of any analysis on the NBA would say that LeBron James, a small forward with a power forward’s body, is the best passer and distributor on the Heat. James dished out 10 assists in Game 1 and did a really good job of getting his teammates involved. This is certainly important in a series when Miami needs more out of non-LeBron players such as Dwyane Wade and especially Chris Bosh.

It was Bosh who suffered so markedly in the Eastern Conference Finals against the defensive length posed by the Indiana Pacers and their two long interior defenders, Roy Hibbert and David West. Bosh needs to be able to do a lot more at the offensive end of the floor in this series, but in Game 1, he missed crucial shots and finished under 40 percent from the field. LeBron did his best to feed Bosh, but the other side of the coin in that regard is that LeBron deferred to his teammates quite frequently in the second half of Game 1.

LeBron has gotten better at being more selfish this season. He has taken on more of the scoring burden precisely because he is Miami’s best player and its best scoring option on every possession. LeBron can create points with his passing and his ability to find open teammates from any spot on the floor, but there are times when LeBron has to rein in that instinct and look to score himself, especially at the foul line.

Expect LeBron to attack the rim in Game 2. This is when he and the Heat are both at their best. Miami will tie the series and set up the protracted battle most hoops experts are expecting.
