Bucks Cavaliers Betting Tips – Cleveland Seeks Continued Improvement

Posted by Craig Parsons on 1/23/2013 6:05:43 PM

The Cleveland Cavaliers are still struggling to get to the point where they're fewer than 20 games under the .500 mark. However, they are getting better. They'll test themselves this Friday.

Milwaukee Bucks @ Cleveland Cavaliers – Friday, January 25
Sport betting line: No line

Why Milwaukee Will Win

If you want to make a winning bet on this game, here's why you might want to pick the Bucks: For one thing, they've lost only twice since Jan. 5. New coach Jim Boylan has gotten some solid efforts from his team, which has found an extra measure of consistency since former coach Scott Skiles departed. This is a team that clearly enjoys playing for its current head coach, a valuable and rather essential thing in the NBA or, for that matter, any sport at any level. The Bucks are firmly in playoff position at the moment, so they're playing with something to defend and strive for.

The other obvious point to bring up if you're inclined to bet on Milwaukee is that Cleveland just can't produce an extended period of quality this season. The Cavaliers have won two of their last three, and that's pretty much as far as they've gone this season in terms of sustained excellence. Cleveland enters Wednesday's action (on Jan. 23) with only 11 wins to its credit. That's a team which just can't seem to get over the hump.

As a final detail here, Milwaukee has two full days of rest before this contest. The Bucks are the better team on paper. With ample recuperation time, they should be able to handle an inferior opponent, even if it's on the road.

Why Cleveland Will Win

When NFL betting students switch from football and devote analytical attention to this game, they might consider the Cavs for this reason: Milwaukee has not beaten very many quality teams in the month of January, despite its clearly encouraging win-loss record under Boylan (6-2). A professional basketball watcher would say that Milwaukee has collected only two really good wins under Boylan, on Jan. 9 at Chicago and then on Jan. 19 at Portland. The Bucks' other wins under Boylan have come against Phoenix (twice), Toronto, and Philadelphia. The Bucks are taking care of business, yes, but they're doing so against teams they should beat, for the most part. Cleveland, with a strong effort, can change the equation.

The Cavaliers, it should be said, are showing signs of a genuine revival. Not only have the Cavs won two of their past three contests, they've won those games against formidable – though not elite – opposition. Cleveland won at Portland and then came home to beat the always-tough Boston Celtics on Tuesday night. This team is competing well, and with Kyrie Irving playing at his best – he scored 40 against Boston – the Cavs are a threat against anyone in the league. Cleveland also has two days of rest before this game, so rest should be a neutral factor on Friday.

Who Will Win

The Cavaliers will put up a good fight, and they are playing at a higher level, but Milwaukee is not in a spot where it figures to be caught off guard. The Bucks will play well and answer every challenge thrown their way.
