Bulls Knicks Betting - Bulls And Knicks Gear Up For Possible Playoff Preview

Posted by Craig Parsons on 4/4/2012 4:25:10 PM

The 2012 NBA season is headed toward a possible scenario in which two big-market teams will lock horns in the first round of the playoffs. The New York Knicks want to make a statement.

Chicago Bulls @ New York Knicks - Sunday, April 8
Sports betting line: No line

Why Chicago Will Win

The professional basketball analysts who will be assessing this NBA contest will tell you that the absence of Derrick Rose really hasn't hurt the Bulls as much as a lot of casual fans might have thought. Chicago entered this week having won seven of ten games, showing that it knows more than one way in which to win a professional basketball game. The Bulls have proved to the rest of the league that their team defense and their cohesiveness at both ends of the floor can withstand their foes' best shots within the context of regular-season competition. Naturally, the Bulls would become a lot weaker in the playoffs without Rose; the focus on primary scoring options will intensify, and opponents can game plan more effectively to take away Chicago's bread-and-butter plays.

In the extended online betting competition of a best-of-seven-game series, the loss of Rose would be magnified in so many ways. However, in the regular-season world that involves one game against one team at one time, the Bulls are durable and adaptable enough to prevail against most clubs. Their interior defense is so substantial, especially at crunch time, and their wing scoring is capable enough to carry the load against a markedly inferior foe. The Bulls beat the Miami Heat at home without Rose a few weeks ago; they can certainly go into Madison Square Garden and deal the Knicks a loss on their home floor.

The fact that New York will be missing both forward Amare Stoudemire and guard Jeremy Lin should dramatically improve the Bulls' chances of winning. Coach Tom Thibodeau knows that if he can take away Carmelo Anthony, the Knicks won't have enough resources to win. Chicago could very easily hold the Knicks under 80 points; without Derrick Rose, that should be enough to win this game.

Why New York Will Win

When you do your homework and assess your sports bet on this game, you just have to look at the other side of the equation for the Knicks. While Derrick Rose's loss hasn't meant much for the Bulls, the Knicks haven't fallen apart without Stoudemire and Lin. New head coach Mike Woodson, leading the team on an interim basis since he took over for former coach Mike D'Antoni, has transformed the Knicks from a run-and-gun team in the D'Antoni image to a rugged defensive team that can show a flinty, feisty edge to the rest of the NBA.

This is a team that can compete in the playoffs, and with New York holding down the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference at the moment, the Knicks are in line to play these very same Chicago Bulls in the first round of the playoffs. New York will want to make a statement to Chicago, and that could give Woodson's club the fire in the belly needed to out-defend the Bulls and win a game with a score of 79-76 or something similar to that.

Who Will Win

It’s a defensive grinder that we're going to see in this game. Neither team should run away from the other because neither team has superstar firepower. Moreover, neither club slacks at the defensive end of the floor. New York will put up a good fight. But the Bulls are so used to coming through in the clutch without Rose, that they'll find a way to win once again.
