Cavaliers vs Magic Odds - Balanced Magic cast spell over Cavs in Orlando

A HREF="https://www.betonline.com/sportsbook" TITLE="sportsbook">Sportsbook players figure that Orlando and Cleveland will see each other down the road, and they’ll get their first look at this matchup when the Cavaliers head to Orlando, where they’ve had recent problems. Whereas the Cavaliers are a one or two-man show, the Magic are very balanced throughout the lineup, especially at home, which is why they’ll take the win.

  • WHAT: NBA betting
  • WHEN: Wednesday, November 11, 8:00 PM ET
  • WHERE: Amway Arena, Orlando, FL
  • KEY STATS: Orlando beat Cleveland in six games in the Eastern Conference finals last year
  • PICK: Magic

Cavaliers vs Magic odds maker breakdown: THE STORYLINE
This is the first meeting of the year between the two Eastern Conference finalists, and the Cavaliers have won four of their last five since losing their first two games of the year. The Magic were blown out in Oklahoma City on Sunday ahead of their trip to Charlotte on Tuesday night. It’s also the meeting of the year for two Supermen: Cleveland’s Shaquille O’Neal and Orlando’s Dwight Howard.

Cavaliers vs Magic odds maker breakdown: STARTING FIVE
The Cavaliers are still deciding on their starting power forward, going between Anderson Vareajo and J.J. Hickson, who played only 13 minutes in Friday’s 100-91 win in New York. Of course, it’s dominated by LeBron James, and Mo Williams is starting to get hot, but the Cavs are still trying to work O’Neal into the offense.

The Magic are waiting for Vince Carter’s ankle to heal until they can see for sure how their online betting odds will shake out. Ryan Anderson also has an ankle problem, which puts a lot of pressure on Howard in the post. J.J. Redick seems to have stepped up his game though, giving the Magic another three-point threat.

Betting Edge: Cavaliers

Cavaliers vs Magic odds maker breakdown: BENCH
Having Varejao coming off the pine strengthens the Cleveland bench, which is already deep with Zydrunas Ilgauskas and “Boobie” Gibson. Once Delonte West gets his off-court problems sorted, the Cavs will be even better off the bench.

Matt Barnes or Brandon Bass will make up for the loss of Anderson, and Mickael Pietrus is the main scorer on the second unit. Also, don’t underestimate the pickup of Jason Williams to back up Jameer Nelson at the point, as he gives them an experienced floor general with championship experience.

Betting Edge: Draw

Cavaliers vs Magic odds maker breakdown: OFFENSE
Cleveland is still trying to figure out how O’Neal fits into the offense, and his passing out of the post is a great weapon to have. Still, outside of James and Williams, there are not really any big scorers in Cleveland, although Anthony Parker has been known to have the odd 20-point outing.

The Magic are 10th in the league in points scored, and Carter’s only played in three games. Although Howard paces the team in scoring, the Magic are a three-point shooting team, and they’ll be even stronger once Rashard Lewis returns from a drug suspension.

Betting Edge: Magic

Cavaliers vs Magic odds maker breakdown: DEFENSE
Cleveland has been one of the best defensive teams in the league with Mike Brown at the helm, and O’Neal gives them a legitimate shot-blocker, or at least someone to alter shots other than James. Varejao’s flopping takes away from the fact that he is an outstanding post defender, and the duo of Parker and Jamario Moon allows James to stay away from the opposition’s best wing player.

The Magic’s defense has had problems at times this year, and Howard hasn’t even been blocking shots like usual. Orlando needs Bass or Barnes to crash the boards to take some of the rebounding pressure off of Howard now that Anderson is injured. Having Redick, who is a sieve, on the floor doesn’t help either.

Betting Edge: Cavaliers

Cavaliers vs Magic odds maker breakdown: BETTING PREDICTION
The Magic should be favored at home, and for good reason: the Cavaliers have lost eight of their last 10 in Orlando. Howard will be amped up to go against O’Neal, who has struggled on the road so far this year. The Magic have played three games at home, yet eight players average 10.3 points or more. This sort of balance will lead them to a win over the Cavaliers.
