Nets Visit Heat; Spurs Host Portland In Second Round Contests On Tuesday

Posted by Craig Parsons on 5/5/2014 10:01:04 PM

The Brooklyn Nets needed every last minute of a seven-game series to get past the Toronto Raptors in the first round. It won’t get any easier with the defending two-time champion Miami Heat waiting for them in round two. There has been plenty of drama throughout the 2014 NBA playoffs, and now the Nets find themselves embracing the underdog role again heading in to a series that they have dominated so far this season.

East Semi-Finals – Game 1
Brooklyn Nets @ Miami Heat
Tuesday, 7:00 PM ET

For as impressive as the Raptors were in the opening round, their winless record against the Heat since Chris Bosh took his things and left for South Beach didn’t offer much in the way of anticipating for a potential second-round series against Miami. Brooklyn on the other hand, swept the four-game season series against the Heat, and veterans like Paul Pierce, Joe Johnson, and Kevin Garnett feel they have what it takes to beat the best in the NBA. While you can only read so far in to how these teams performed against one another during the regular season, what you can take from it is that the Nets match up well, and they certainly should be confident in their chances against LeBron James and company. Containing LeBron will be tough, but Brooklyn has plenty of big bodies to deal with Bosh and Dwyane Wade, so if they can contain him they should be in good shape. Miami is coming off a long layoff following their first-round sweep of the Charlotte Bobcats, while Brooklyn has momentum on its side with a quick turnaround. The Nets will have a hard time coming out on top in this series, but they have an excellent opportunity to steal game one on the road and set the tone for another intriguing second round series.

NBA Betting Pick: Brooklyn Nets

West Semi-Finals – Game 1
Portland Trail Blazers @ San Antonio Spurs
Tuesday, 9:30 PM ET

The Trail Blazers owned the biggest moment of the opening round, as well as the biggest upset after taking out the Houston Rockets in six games. Damian Lillard’s buzzer-beating three-ball that stole the series sent shockwaves throughout the NBA, and proved that Rip City is for real right now. The Spurs already received caution after going the distance against the Dallas Mavericks in the first round, but showed in a decisive game seven-win that they are ready for the best in the Western Conference. Containing Lillard and LaMarcus Aldridge will be key, and if they can limit what Portland’s two biggest stars can do offensively, they should feel confident about their situation. Tony Parker is coming off a game-high 32 points, while Danny Green shot 5-for-7 from the field for 16 points, and did an excellent job holding Monta Ellis to 3-for-11 shooting with some strong defense. Those two will be tasked with slowing down Lillard, while providing a strong offensive punch. Tim Duncan still has some game left in him, but the team will need Thiago Splitter and Boris Diaw to step up down low, particularly at the defensive end of the floor.

NBA Betting Pick: San Antonio Spurs
