NBA Basketball Betting: Daily Picks for Friday December 25

Posted by The Wiesguy on 12/24/2015 11:51:14 PM

The NBA owns Christmas Day. They try and give us the matchups we want to see and let us sit in front of the TV all day long. Let’s break down all of the games, shall we?

Game 1: New Orleans Pelicans vs. Miami Heat

This one would have looked good before the season started but the Pelicans have been terrible this season. Anthony Davis can still dominate against anyone but it hasn’t come together at all. Miami is in the thick of it in the Eastern Conference. They have a couple of guys they can throw at Davis and thus should be able to get the home win to kick off this special day.

Prediction: Miami is at -6 which seems like a pretty good value. I like the fact that they have savvy offensive players that can salt away a close game and make you the victor. Take the Heat.

Game 2: Chicago Bulls vs. Oklahoma City Thunder

This is a nice East vs. West battle of contenders. Both of these teams have first year coaches that took the leap from college and based on record alone Billy Donovan has had the easier adjustment. Of course having top players like Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook makes the transition a little easier. Chicago has players too but not quite at that calibre and the East is better this season.

Prediction: OKC is a significant home favourite at -8. The Bulls have lost some tough ones recently and will be down Joakim Noah. OKC is playing well and should be able to win this one relatively easily. Take the Thunder.

Game 3: Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Golden State Warriors

This is “The Game” of Christmas Day. Not just a rematch of last year’s Finals but also the best teams from the East and the West this season too. Plus the best players in the game in LeBron and Steph. The only thing more we could ask for would be if Golden State still had their perfect start to the season still going. It is better not to be greedy this time of year though. Right?

Prediction: The Warriors are -7, which seems pretty steep against the Cavs. No doubt are they capable though. This might be the one game to just sit back and watch as a fan. But if you want to get down take the home side.

Game 4: San Antonio Spurs vs. Houston Rockets

A battle in the Texas Triangle is always fun. San Antonio is right there behind the Warriors while Houston has been mostly disappointing. With Dwight Howard healthy the Rockets can try and limit at least one of the Spurs inside players but this one is likely to come down to the matchup of James Harden and Kawhi Leonard. If the Beard can get off against one of the better defensive players in the league the home team has a shot.

Prediction: Houston is a huge underdog at home at +8. There is no doubting the Spurs can beat pretty much anyone by that margin on the road but it looks like a little too much for me. Take the home Rockets.

Game 5: Los Angeles Clippers vs. Los Angeles Lakers

They scheduled it so I am stuck writing about it. This one features a disappointment (the Clippers) vs. an embarrassment (the Lakers) so i hereby give permission to those on the East Coast to get to bed early. If you have to watch then hope that Kobe can rekindle some magic to make it worth your while.

Prediction: Even though the Clippers are -11 and maddening this season you can’t bet the Lakers here. They could easily lose this thing by 20. Either get behind LAC or take a pass and get that extra rest.
