Hawks Hope To Put Away Nets With Win In Game 6 On Friday

Posted by on 4/30/2015 9:04:02 PM

Just when it seemed as though the Brooklyn Nets would step up and push the Atlanta Hawks to the wire in their opening round best-of-7 series the momentum has changed again. This time the Nets might not recover. Atlanta took a 3-2 series lead with a 107-97 win over Brooklyn on Wednesday despite the fact that Al Horford had dislocated his finger and Jeff Teague has twisted his right ankle because those two still managed to score 20 points each while DeMarre Carroll, Paul Millsap and Kyle Korver each stepped up as well. Now the two sides head back to Brooklyn for Game 6 on Friday night with the Nets once again hoping that they can shift the momentum of the series back in their favor and force a Game 7 in a must-win situation.

Game 6 – Hawks lead Best-of-7 Series 3-2

NBA Betting Line: Atlanta -2.5

NBA Betting Preview: Atlanta

The fact that Horford and Teague were as good as they were despite each dealing with nagging injuries is impressive not to mention the consistently high level of play the team has gotten from Carroll and Millsap throughout the series. Korver struggled earlier on in the series but he hit 5-of-12 3-point shot attempts in Game 5 and if he can find his rhythm early on in Game 6 then Brooklyn will be that much more dangerous. Atlanta had no trouble getting to 107 points despite getting just 16 combined points from its bench in Game 5. The starters will be called on to get the job done again on Friday and considering both the nagging injuries and the fact that the Washington Wizards are already waiting for them in the next round after sweeping the Toronto Raptors there will be an urgency to wrap up this series as soon as possible.

NBA Betting Preview: Brooklyn

After a big performance in Game 4, Deron Williams was held to five points on 2-for-8 shooting while Bojan Bogdanovic finished with 7 points on 3-of-8 shooting in Game 5. Alan Anderson and Jarrett Jack combined for 41 points off the bench but it didn’t matter nearly as much with Williams and Bogdanovic both struggling from the field. It’s become difficult to trust any one of that group of guards on a game-to-game basis and it won’t help that the Nets best big man is fatigued either. Head coach Lionel Hollins admitted that Lopez has been, “gassed the last two games” and that he has to “figure out a way to give him a little more rest” so that doesn’t exactly inspire confidence. Brooklyn has already proven some people wrong by getting this far in the first place but whether or not they can rally and force a Game 7 is a completely different question.

Outlook & Pick

The Hawks have been the better team all season and while the Nets might have caught them off guard for a pair of wins those victories had as much to do with Atlanta struggling from the field as they did Brooklyn playing at a high level. Williams and Joe Johnson have lacked consistency all year while Lopez is clearly fatigued as well. The Hawks heated up in Game 5 at home and if they can carry over that momentum in to this game they should be able to finish off the series in six games.

Pick: Atlanta -2.5
