2015 NBA Betting – Picks For Games On Thursday, May 14

Posted by Craig Parsons on 5/14/2015 12:35:03 AM

The worst second-round series in the NBA, one filled with ugly blowouts, moves to Game 6, as the Los Angeles Clippers try to finish off the Houston Rockets and move to the conference finals.

Game 6, Western Conference Semifinals:

Houston Rockets @ Los Angeles Clippers – Thursday, May 14

When this series began, it seemed that the absence of Chris Paul was going to give Houston an advantage. Yet, the Clippers pounded the Rockets in Game 1 without Paul on the floor. Ever since then, Los Angeles has usually been the better team. The Clippers played only one bad game in this series. However, that bad game was the most recent one, in Game 5. Houston finally looked like a team worthy of the number two seed in the Western Conference. The Rockets finally played with the defensive intensity and aggression that marked their very successful regular season. Houston might have found something in Game 5 that it can carry over to Game 6, giving the Rockets a chance to pull off a 3-1 comeback in the series. James Harden looked better. Trevor Ariza looked better. Terrence Jones and Corey Brewer were very good in coming off the bench. The Rockets got a lot of different players to pitch in, flipping the script after the Clippers were able to be balanced in that same way in Games 3 and 4. Maybe Houston can climb back and force a Game 7 by winning on Thursday night.

However, Los Angeles has usually been the better team in this series. Houston won Game 5 at home, but now the Clippers get to play another potential series clincher in their own building. Since Los Angeles defeated the San Antonio Spurs in a great series, it is hard to imagine the Clippers now slipping up against an opponent that just hasn’t played consistently well. This certainly feels like a victory for the Clippers on Thursday.

NBA Betting Pick: Los Angeles Clippers

Game 6, Eastern Conference Semifinals:

Cleveland Cavaliers @ Chicago Bulls – Thursday, May 14

When the Cleveland Cavaliers needed something special in Game 5, LeBron James gave it to them. LeBron scored 38 points, grabbed 12 rebounds, dished out six assists, swiped three steals, and recorded three blocked shots while not committing a turnover. Only a few other people in NBA playoff history have ever produced a stat line that clean and perfect. LeBron was 14 of 24 from the field, over 50 percent. His shot selection was a lot better than it was in Games 3 and 4 in Chicago. The Cavaliers might have found the secret to beating the Bulls.

However, Kyrie Irving is still not 100 percent from a physical standpoint. He shot well in Game 5, but he is now more of a jump shooter and less a guy who will take the ball all the way to the basket on the dribble. Chicago can defend him, and if the Bulls get just a little more offense from Nikola Mirotic (2 of 7 in Game 5) and Taj Gibson (4 of 12 in Game 5), they should be able to beat Cleveland. Chicago actually played poorly in Game 5, yet stayed close until the end. This is still a series the Bulls can win. They’ll force a Game 7.

NBA Betting Pick: Chicago
