Hawks, Warriors One Win Away From Conference Finals Heading In To Friday Night’s Action

Posted by on 5/14/2015 10:00:38 PM

The Atlanta Hawks and Golden State Warriors have answered their critics with consecutive wins and now the No. 1 seeds in their respective conferences are each one win away from reaching the conference finals. Atlanta and Golden State will try to end their series’ on the road on Friday night but neither the Washington Wizards or Memphis Grizzlies are expected to go away quietly. Here is a quick look at the best bets for Friday night’s NBA action.

Best-of-7 Series – Game 6

Atlanta Hawks @ Washington Wizards

Hawks Lead Series 3-2

Friday, 7:00 PM ET

Paul Pierce has hit some big shots both in this year’s playoffs and throughout his NBA career but after sinking the latest of them he probably would have been better off keeping quiet. Instead Pierce taunted the Hawks bench after a big 3-point shot in Game 5 in which he supposedly said, “series” to the bench. Regardless of the spark that may or may not have provided, Atlanta rallied for the 82-81 win in a game where they went seven minutes without a single point in the fourth quarter. Now the Hawks head to the nation’s capital looking to clinch the series and if they continue to get the type of production they received from Al Horford in their last contest it could very well be over on Friday night. Horford scored a game-high 23 points with 11 rebounds and five rebounds in Game 5 while Paul Millsap, Jeff Teague and DeMarre Caroll each posted double-digit point totals. Atlanta was also able to limit the production of John Wall and Bradley Beal and as long as they are able to stymie them on the perimeter while beating up on Washington’s big men down low they could very well win Game 6 and end the series.

Pick: Atlanta

Best-of-7 Series – Game 6

Golden State Warriors @ Memphis Grizzlies

Warriors Lead Best-of-7 Series 3-2

Friday, 9:30 PM ET

Golden State has stepped up at both ends of the floor in their last two games including holding Memphis to 78 points in their Game 5 win. Stephen Curry has lived up to his MVP status with an average of 25.5 points per game over consecutive wins but it was Andre Iguodola that provided a major spark off the bench in Game 5 with 16 points in 25 minutes off the bench. Iguodola nearly matched the 17 points that the entire Grizzlies bench recorded in the contest and he was just as good at the defensive end of the floor. Memphis is too talented to go away quietly but when Iguodola and Klay Thompson are performing at a high level along with Curry playing at an MVP level the Warriors are almost impossible to stop. The Grizzlies gave them a good run in the first two games but they have lost their edge in consecutive losses and they will have a tough time extending the series with Golden State looking to bring down the hammer with a chance to advance to the Western Conference Finals in Game 6 on Friday.

Pick: Golden State
