The Regular Season Winds Down, With Teams In Various States Of Urgency

Posted by Craig Parsons on 4/8/2013 7:23:33 PM

The NBA regular season is coming to a close. Some teams want to maintain form, while other teams need to play their way into shape before the postseason arrives.

Game 1: Washington Wizards @ New York Knicks – Tuesday, April 9

In online poker games that unfold nightly on 94-foot-long slabs of hardwood, you need someone who can deal the ball with consistency and dependability. Yes, Carmelo Anthony is shooting extremely well right now, riding a two-week stretch as impressive as the one LeBron James unfurled a month and a half ago for the Miami Heat.

However, Anthony wouldn’t be where he is – and the New York Knicks wouldn’t be where they are – without the virtuosity and playmaking skill of point guard Raymond Felton, who is breaking defenses down with the dribble and then passing to open teammates such as Anthony for good shots. It is Felton’s ability to recover from a midseason finger injury that has stabilized and smoothed out the Knicks.
New York is once again operating with a great deal of comfort at the offensive end of the floor, and that’s what should enable the Knicks to handle Washington at home on Tuesday, extending their winning streak to 13 games.

NBA Betting Pick: New York

Game 2: Philadelphia 76ers @ Brooklyn Nets - Tuesday, April 9

Legal online sports betting experts know that Brooklyn is not exactly a lead contender for the Eastern Conference title, or even any sort of contender at all. One might legitimately contend that the Chicago Bulls are more of a contender in the East than the Nets are. Yet, Brooklyn should dictate this game from start to finish and register a fairly straightforward win over Philadelphia.

Yes, Brooklyn is vulnerable in the face of a team that can throw a strong big man at the Nets. Carlos Boozer of the Chicago Bulls scored 29 points and yanked down 18 rebounds on Thursday night in Brooklyn’s 92-90 loss, but Philadelphia just can’t hurt the Nets as long as Andrew Bynum is not on the floor. Spencer Hawes is not in Brooklyn’s weight class.

He will not be able to change the equation for the undermanned Sixers, who do not figure to be able to stand in the ring for 48 full minutes on Tuesday.

NBA Betting Pick: Brooklyn

Game 3: Phoenix Suns @ Houston Rockets - Tuesday, April 9

Even the ranks of online football betting students who simply can’t be bothered to do much of any analysis on the NBA would say that Houston owns a substantial edge over and against Phoenix on Tuesday. Houston was eviscerated on Saturday night by a Denver Nuggets team that was playing without Danilo Gallinari, who is out for the remainder of the season with an injury suffered last week against the Dallas Mavericks.

That loss by Houston suggests that the Rockets won’t be able to make a playoff series, but Houston should be angry after that embarrassing loss, enough to take out its frustrations on a Phoenix side that has fallen to last place in the entire Western Conference. Houston suffers against quality offensive teams, but Phoenix just isn’t loaded with many prime scoring threats. This is a terrible matchup for the Suns, who should get burned by the Rockets.

NBA Betting Pick: Houston
