How To Bet On Pistons Magic – Pistons Continue Fight To Remain Relevant Friday At Orlando

Posted by Craig Parsons on 1/24/2013 6:09:12 PM

Despite the fact that they aren’t considered a legitimate sports betting contender in the Eastern Conference this season, the Detroit Pistons have continued to fight for a playoff spot. While it may hurt the franchise in the long run not to have a high draft pick, Pistons’ owner Fred Zollner has forced the issue and demanded the best of Lawrence Frank and his team every night, and with six wins in its last 10 games Detroit is technically still just 3.5 games back of the Boston Celtics for the eighth and final playoff spot. The Pistons continue their journey at the Orlando Magic on Sunday, a team that has undoubtedly committed to heading in to the opposite direction.

It seemed for a while as though the Magic would actually make a run at the playoffs before an awful 11-game losing streak sent them sliding down the standings and in the direction of a lottery pick. Orlando still hasn’t hit rock bottom just yet, but a home loss to Detroit would add to the misery for this year, and perhaps the optimism for the future.

NBA Betting Preview: Detroit Pistons

Despite playing slightly better than .500-basketball at home this season, the Pistons have been awful on the road with just four wins in 19 games so far. Detroit has struggled in particular with its consistency at the offensive end of the floor, with centers Greg Monroe and Andre Drummond holding down the middle while a number of different perimeter players work around them. That group includes Will Bynum, Chansi Stuckey, Brandon Knight, and Tayshaun Prince, and while they have shown signs at time, they have lacked the consistency needed to win online betting games on the road.

NBA Betting Preview: Orlando Magic

Whether or not the Magic franchise actually wants to win games right now is debatable, especially considering they have just eight wins in 14 home games so far. The focus is on the future in Orlando and while Arron Afflalo has averaged a team-high 17 points per game while Nikola Vucevic has picked up his defensive game, the Magic still have work to do to surround them with the best possible supporting cast to maximize their talent. That may include adding a No. 1 big man in the offseason after failing to retain the services of Dwight Howard, but considering his play in Los Angeles so far, change in Orlando may have been the best thing for the franchise after all.

NBA Betting Preview: Outlook & Pick

Despite that they haven’t played their best basketball of late and have been awful on the road, the Magic still have some serviceable veterans in Afflalo, JJ Redick, and Jameer Nelson, and are capable of competing with a team like Detroit at home. The Pistons may be headed in the wrong direction in terms of building a winner, since as much as Zollner wants to win now, his team simply isn’t strong enough at this point.
