Knicks 76ers Betting – Knicks Keep Rolling On The Road In Philadelphia

Posted by Craig Parsons on 2/10/2014 5:15:08 AM

Online betting players watching the New York Knicks this season have seen them go through some big chances, but they seem to be thriving after splitting from their head coach. The Knicks try to keep it going on Wednesday night in Philadelphia, where the 76ers are slipping and need to regain their confidence.

What: NBA Betting
When: Wednesday, Wednesday, March 21st, 7:00 PM ET
Where: Wells Fargo Center, Philadelphia, PA
Pick: New York Knicks

Why Bet On New York Knicks (21-24 SU, 21-24 ATS)

The Knicks still have to host Toronto on Tuesday, and they would be aiming to extend a three-game winning streak to four after a 102-88 victory in Indiana, which was the second half of a back-to-back against the Pacers. Jeremy Lin had 19 points, seven rebounds and six assists, while Carmelo Anthony and Amare Stoudemire added 16 points apiece for the Knicks, who had an 11-rebound edge over the Pacers and even though they shot just 41.6% from the field, they held the Pacers to 40.5%. The bench also stepped up as J.R. Smith had 11 points to lead a second unit that outscored their Indiana counterparts 34-17 and they’ve also played a bigger role under Woodson, or at least they’re just performing better. It was their third straight win since Mike Woodson took over for Mike D’Antoni, and the Knicks look like a brand-new team on both ends of the floor, so maybe D’Antoni really was beginning to lose the locker room.

Baron Davis (hamstring) and Toney Douglas (personal – birth of first child) should be back in the lineup on Tuesday, which should take a little pressure off Lin at the point. The Knicks seem to be getting everyone involved in the offense more scoring at least 102 points in all three of their wins, and the bench has been on fire to give some support for the starters. The Knicks are in the final playoff spot in the East, so they’re righting the ship at the proper time, just in time for a stretch run.

Why Bet On Philadelphia 76ers (25-20 SU, 24-21 ATS)

The 76ers are struggling heading into Monday’s trip to Charlotte, as they fell 89-80 in Chicago on Saturday for their third loss in a row. Philadelphia jumped out to a fast start as they were up 13 after the first quarter and the lead got as high as 14 points, but then the 76ers went cold in the United Center. Jrue Holiday led the way with 30 points, five assists and five rebounds, while Spender Hawes had 10 points and seven boards for the 76ers, who had 10 fewer points on free throws and were outrebounded 53-39 (including 17-9 on the offensive end). The three losses came against Indiana, Miami and Chicago, who are around or ahead of the 76ers in the standings and Philadelphia fans have to be worried about whether the team is coming back to earth after punching above their weight for most of the season.  They can at least be encouraged by Holiday’s performance as he scored his career-high points and became the first 76er to hit the 30-point mark this season, but the ball has to move better as only he (27 shots) and Andre Igoudala (10 shots) were the only Philly players to hit double-figures in shots.

Philly is healthy coming down the stretch, although Hawes (Achilles) is being brought along slowly after his injury. He can’t play two games in a row or for more than five minutes at a time, so hopefully Hawes can be of some use to the 76ers in the postseason. The 76ers would love to have him healthy to give them a low-post option when the action slows down, so it’ll be interesting to see how much Hawes plays down the stretch. The 76ers are currently in the fourth spot in the Eastern Conference, and they’ll need to get back on track, preferably against the Bobcats before they face the Knicks.

How It Will Play Out

Look for the 76ers to come out as the NBA betting favorites at home, where they are 16-9 SU and 15-10 ATS, while the Knicks are 8-14 SU and 9-13 ATS on the road. These two have split their two meetings this season, which both came in New York; an 85-79 win for the Knicks on January 11th, and then a 106-94 victory for the 76ers on March 11th.

The Knicks have been playing inspired basketball as of late and they have three players who can take over a game offensively, while the 76ers probably only have one, maybe two. The 76ers were fantastic early in the season, but they’re falling off the pace and the Knicks could catch up to them in the standings if they can continue this run. Take the Knicks on the road in your sports betting book.
