Bulls, Knicks Battle For Position In The Eastern Conference

Posted by Craig Parsons on 4/10/2013 7:16:39 PM

The Chicago Bulls aren’t going to get home-court advantage in the first round of the NBA playoffs. The main question right now is if they’re going to finish fifth or sixth.

New York Knicks @ Chicago Bulls – Thursday, April 11
Betting line: No line

Why New York Will Win

When football betting gurus pivot from pigskin and look at this NBA contest, they're not going to look favorably on Chicago. As the Knicks are approaching the end of the regular season and most of the roster has returned to good health, they have once again become one of the teams that could realistically make it all the way to the NBA Finals this year.

The experienced players on this team have had their ups and downs this season with injuries, but it looks like everyone is going to be in good shape for the postseason, and that is why they are taking names right now. Coach Mike Woodson is making his final adjustments for a run at the title, and those new looks have pried open more rebounding opportunities on the offensive side of the glass, which has been giving the Knicks a lot more points per possession.

The most important ingredient in the Knicks’ resurgence has been the renewed health of the team’s MVP candidate Carmelo Anthony, who has been so hot lately that when opposing teams get too close to him and overcompensate, he has been able to pass out of double-teams and find open men for easy buckets. This is clearly a team ready for a title run and that means it is going to look to continue its high level of play to the end of the regular season, riding it into the East finals against the Miami Heat.

Why Chicago Will Win

Various online sports betting legal outlets are going to give reasonable odds to Chicago in this game, primarily because the Bulls, though injured (as they are now), stopped the Miami Heat’s 27-game winning streak at home in the Windy City. The Bulls can now do something similar to the Knicks.

This team has something to prove, and this is going to be the kind of game in which they can make a statement. They showed in the win against the Heat that they are willing to do whatever it takes to win games, even playing with an extra level of physicality that might not make friends on the other side of the court.

This is going to be another big matchup for Chicago, as it tries to get ready for the postseason this year. A win will do them good in terms of building confidence; this club really needs a lift, because its injury-weakened roster has been laboring under a burden for a long time. The bench on this team has some serious holes in it. Overall, the real strength of this team has been a can- do attitude that just won't quit, especially at the defensive end of the floor. That is the kind of quality that can lead to a victory in any game, especially considering some of the talent that is evident in players such as Carlos Boozer plus Kirk Hinrich, two men who were instrumental in leading the Bulls past the Heat.

Who Will Win

If you have to choose a team here, it should be the Knicks. Carmelo Anthony is in such a groove, but even if he doesn’t score, Raymond Felton and Tyson Chandler can pick up the slack.
