Pacers Attempt to Close Out Series Against Star Studded Knicks

Posted by Derrick James on 5/17/2013 6:19:23 PM

The New York Knicks just keep hanging around in this series, recently forcing a Game 6 thanks to an out of nowhere 13 point performance from Chris Copeland, who is averaging just nine minutes per game this post-season. It was Copeland's performance off the bench, along with Carmelo Anthony's late in the game jumpers that sealed the victory for the Knicks and forced the series a game longer. Although the Knicks were able to win behind 28 points from Carmelo Anthony, they will need someone else to step-up alongside him if they hope to win two more and advance to the Conference Finals.

The Indiana Pacers, although dropping Game 5 and appearing to be the worse team, still have two more chances to win and advance to the next round of the playoffs. Sports books are still favoring the Pacers to win the series, although they will need a better performance out of Roy Hibbert than the nine points and seven rebounds he had in the Game 5 loss. If Tyson Chandler is controlling the paint the rest of the series, the Pacers' task will be that much tougher despite having two games to get one victory.

NBA Betting Preview: New York Knicks

The Knicks can out shoot any team in the league, which is why they must continue to get Anthony open looks as opposed to the contested jumpers he was taking earlier in the series when the Knicks were losing. Another thing the Knicks did well that gamblers should take notice of is the more intense defense they played in Game 5 which lead to an impressive 12 team steals, contributing to the 19 total turnovers they forced upon the Pacers. If the Knicks can continue to play this more aggressive defense, and keep the Pacers to low shooting percentages, they still have a chance to come back and win this series.

NBA Betting Preview: Indiana Pacers

The Pacers just didn't play well in Game 5. They let the Knicks dictate their offense, which is why they shot just 36.2% from the floor, lower than the 38.9% the Knicks shot from three-point range. Paul George and David West proved they can be relied on as both had solid all-around performances, however, no one else stepped up alongside them which is why the Pacers were left scoring just 75 points. Having George Hill back for Game 6 will help the Pacers immensely as he will be the three point threat the Pacers were lacking on Thursday night.

NBA Betting Preview: Outlook & Pick

Although the New York Knicks were clearly the better team on Thursday night in Game 5, the Pacers will now be back at full strength, which means they will be closer to scoring 100 points than the 75 they scored in Game 5. Home court advantage will be a key factor in Game 6 for the Pacers as they have not yet lost their this post-season, which is why the Pacers are my sports betting pick to not only win on Saturday, but win the series and advance to the Conference Finals as well.
