Miami Heat Betting Predictions – Miami Heat Preview

Posted by Craig Parsons on 11/11/2012 5:21:08 PM

When people in the online sports betting legal realm look at the facts, they'll not deny that the Heat are very much in position to defend their Eastern Conference title… and then some.

The high-stakes poker games that take place on a nightly basis in the NBA will feature a Miami team that has a winning hand… all while Eastern Conference foes suffer by comparison.

With the Chicago Bulls staring at the fact that superstar point guard Derrick Rose will not be with the team until February at the earliest (and perhaps not until April, if at all), Miami should definitely be able to get the top seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs, something it has improbably not been able to do each of the last two seasons. Indiana is still young and decidedly unproven at the defensive end of the floor. The Boston Celtics are still formidable, but they’re getting older and not younger. The Brooklyn Nets have the makings of a terrific offense, but they're unlikely to have the defense that can get them past the second round of the playoffs.

One reality that jumps off the printed page about the 2012-2013 Heat is that they have improved their team in the offseason. The Heat did win the world championship last season, but they knew they had to get better in two ways, and they've clearly addressed one of them: perimeter shooting. The Heat did not get dependable outside shooting for most of their 2011-2012 regular season. Shane Battier, who came alive in the Eastern Conference Finals and then exploded in the NBA Finals, did not rain in threes for most of the 2011-2012 campaign. Mike Miller was dogged by injuries for most of the season. As a result, defenses were able to focus on stopping LeBron James and Dwyane Wade.

The Heat knew that they had to bring in better shooters to create improved floor spacing for their superstars and make it impossible for defenses to double-team LeBron. Miami achieved that goal by signing Ray Allen from the Boston Celtics and Rashard Lewis from the Washington Wizards. These two sharpshooters were excellent on Oct. 30 against Boston, enabling Miami to score 120 points. The Heat have a lethal offense, and that should see them through any rough points that emerge over the course of the coming months. If Miami gets involved in a contentious playoff series, the Heat don't have to put the scoring burden entirely on LeBron James and Dwyane Wade.

People in the football betting world who don't pay much attention to NBA basketball might have forgotten that Miami endured a lot of hardships last season. Miami defeated Indiana in six games in the Eastern Conference semifinals… without forward Chris Bosh. The Heat played Boston on even terms in the first four games of the Eastern Conference Finals… without Bosh. When Bosh returned to the Miami lineup, the Heat gained the tertiary scorer they sorely missed for much of the Eastern Conference playoffs. With a healthy Bosh back on the court, Miami smoked Oklahoma City in the NBA Finals. The point is simple: Miami – with a healthy Bosh, something it did not have for roughly half of last season's playoffs – excelled. Now, though, this team is even better than it was before. That's a scary thought to contemplate… and it's why the Heat are seen as a unanimous choice to win the East.
