Minnesota Timberwolves Betting Predictions – Timberwolves Will Contend For Playoff Spot With Healhy Rubio, Love

Posted by Craig Parsons on 10/14/2012 6:55:27 PM
Following a disappointing 26-40 regular season records in last year’s lockout-shortened year, it is easy to forget about how good the Minnesota Timberwolves looked early on before Ricky Rubio tore his ACL and the team fell through a devastating 5-20 slide the rest of the way. Prior to Rubio’s injury, the Timberwolves were 21-20 and a surprise contender in the Western conference with a strong core group of players leading the way. Rubio was one of those key players, and will be back to lead Minnesota in 2012. With Rubio back in the fold, All-Star Kevin Love back for at least one more year, and the additions of both Andrei Kirilenko and Brandon Roy, the Timberwolves could be a surprise contender in the Western conference once again this online sportsbook season. If Minnesota can stay healthy, this group will undoubtedly be in the mix for a playoff spot after making several notable changes in the offseason. Love and Rubio remain the core players, but nearly everything around them has changed. The Timberwolves said goodbye to Michael Beasley and Anthony Randolph after they failed to fit in to the way the team wanted to attack on offense, and then also cut ties with Wayne Ellington and Martell Webster, neither of whom had lived up to expectations. Minnesota then used that money to bring in Kirilenko and Roy despite that neither of those players even played in the NBA last season, with an obvious method to their madness. Kirilenko is a prime outside scorer that can hit the three, and he played very well in his native Russia last season. Roy will make his return after knee problems forced him in to early retirement, and while he won’t be the superstar he was before he left the game a sports betting year ago, he will still be relied on for his outside-shooting ability. With Love and Nikola Pekovic controlling the interior and posting up, there should be plenty of room for Kirilenko and Roy to find their shots. They will also get a ton of help from Rubio, who will allow them to play off the ball and help create space for them to hit plenty of open looks. Luke Ridnour and JJ Barea will provide some secondary scoring off the bench, while Dante Cunningham is also expected to see some minutes in relief up front. The Timberwolves traded for Cunningham and then signed Louis Amundson to provide some depth behind Love and Pekovic, but will still rely heavily on their starters. Listed at +8000 online betting odds to win an NBA title, Minnesota will not be capturing any championship hardware this season even though they are given stronger consideration than nearly half of the NBA’s teams. Still, this is a team that with several key pieces that if healthy, can truly make a run in the Western conference. The Timberwolves were on paace to contend for a playoff spot before an injury to Rubio effectively ended their chances, but with their starting point guard back healthy, and the additions of Roy and Kirilenko to help with the outside scoring presence, Minnesota will contend for the postseason in 2012. Regular Season Prediction: 8th In Western Conference
