NBA Basketball Betting - Trade Winds

Posted by Brian Mulligan on 2/10/2014 5:08:40 AM

It’s never healthy, for governments, teams, or sports betting players to deal with hypotheticals but sense the National Basketball Association trade deadline is Thursday; players also don’t want to get caught flat-footed if and when deals go down.

So let’s look at some potential trades and how they may affect the sports betting lines the rest of the season.

First off know the Ricky Rubio injury will have some things to say about who and who does not get traded by Thursday.

The Minnesota rookie from Spain was having a sensational year but tore an ACL in his knee in a collision with Kobe Bryant in a game last week and is lost for the season.

Luke Ridnour was talked about in trades by Minnesota but he probably won’t be moved now because it will leave the Timberwolves short with guards. Minnesota will also likely cease and desist in trying to pry Spaniard Pau Gasol away from the Lakers but more on his future a bit later.

Minnesota was having one of its best seasons in recent years playing .500 ball after 42 games and they have a positive slate against the spread record but that may go the other way without Rubio, who was a sensational distributor and an underrated defender.

Expect more teams to cover the online sports book spreads against Minnesota the rest of the way home.

As for Gasol, the Los Angeles Lakers should not trade this guy. He turned them around when he came in and they won two titles. Sure, he can look soft at times, but a guy that has won championships around the world cannot be soft.

Gasol is the rare 7-foot commodity that can finesse shots down low, jam and score from outside. He’s a great passer and knows how to play the game.

His numbers are on a par with what he has put up in his career and his heart is in Los Angeles. What the Lakers do need is help scoring with a young and hungry point guard.

One trade scenario that may make sense for Los Angeles is a Gasol for Luis Scola/Kyle Lowry trade.

Scola has been durable and is tricky around the hoop while Kyle Lowry, although a bit undersized, can score and can move the ball around.

If Jim Buss, who is now calling the shots for Los Angeles, is intent on moving Gasol, this trade would make sense. As for Buss, he was a horse trainer for a while in Los Angeles and had a very poor reputation. He didn’t win races; he was a notorious bettor and not a good one.

Another guy the Lakers may have their eye on is Raymond Felton of the Portland Trailblazers. He is in the doghouse up there and Coach McMillan has replaced him as a starter.

Felton would not cost L.A. an arm and a leg and he can give you 14 points a game, a bit more than Derek Fisher can now at his advanced age. Ramon Sessions is another possibility for the Lakers to think about, as he has not been appreciated by the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The Lakers are minus ATS after 40 games but are tied for the lead in the Pacific Division and they know that if they can get the right seed in the playoffs, they can still come out of the West.

Don’t expect Phoenix to part with Steve Nash. The future is in his own hands and he is not a disgruntled player.

As far as Dwight Howard is concerned, good luck to a team that sells the house to get Howard. Sure, the guy can be a beast, but he doesn’t bring it every single night like a Kobe, can’t shoot free throws any better than my grand daughter and he’s never won anything in his life.

Come Thursday, tune in and hope for some exciting changes that will help teams beat the betting websites spreads.
