NBA Betting – Tips And Trends For The Weekend

Posted by Craig Parsons on 2/5/2014 2:06:09 AM

Sports betting players should be preparing themselves for a busy weekend in the NBA as teams are starting to get more comfortable with each other at this early juncture in the season. Here is a look at the top five games of the weekend, and a few tips and trends to aid you in making your NBA betting picks.

Wizards Bulls Betting – Saturday, 8:00 PM ET

The Bulls will likely be the NBA betting favorite in this contest on Saturday night, and they’ve been solid at the United Center so far this year, going 3-1-1 ATS both at home and as a favorite. However, they’ve had their problems against the Wizards in Chicago as of late, going 3-2 SU, but a disappointing 1-4 ATS. This will be a matchup dictated by the point guards, Derrick Rose of Chicago (the 2008 No.1 pick, 2009 Rookie of the Year and former disciple of John Calipari) and John Wall of Washington (the 2009 No.1 pick, 2010 Rookie of the Year favorite and former disciple of John Calipari). Two of the last five meetings have gone over the posted total, but this one could because of the pace of the point guards.

Trail Blazers Hornets Betting – Saturday, 8:00 PM ET

The Hornets will be the NBA betting favorites coming into this game as the only unbeaten team in the league (raise your hands if you had that prop bet at the beginning of the year). New Orleans have been on fire for NBA betting players so far this season, going 7-0 ATS as well, including 4-0 ATS at home and they covered their first two games as an NBA favorite. Portland is 2-2-1 ATS away from home, and they’re 1-2 as an ATS underdog. But Portland has been decent in New Orleans, going 3-2 SU and 4-1 ATS in their last five trips. Both teams rank in the top three in the West in terms of points allowed, so take a hard look at the under.

Spurs Thunder Betting – Sunday, 7:00 PM ET

The Thunder should be the NBA betting favorites at home in this matchup, but they seem to be struggling under the high expectations bestowed on them this season. The Thunder are 1-5 as an ATS favorite to start the 2010-11 campaign, and they’re also 1-3 ATS at home. This could be the first time this year that the Spurs will be an underdog in your online sportsbook, and they’re a solid 2-0-1 ATS away from home. The Spurs have a veteran team that has been through all the battles, and they’re going to be looking to send a message to the up-and-coming Thunder, who are 1-3 both SU and ATS in four home games against the Spurs.

Rockets Knicks Betting – Sunday, 7:30 PM ET

The Knicks will host Houston in what should be an uptempo affair on Sunday night at Madison Square Garden, and they’ll likely get the edge as the home team. Both teams like to score without playing much defense, so take a look at the over in your posted total. The Rockets have fared pretty well in their last five trips to New York, going 4-1 SU and 3-2 ATS, with two of the last three meetings going over the posted total. Houston is 2-2 ATS away from home so far this season, while the Knicks are1-2-1 ATS at home.

Suns Lakers Betting – Sunday, 9:30 PM ET

In this Western showdown, the defending champions should be favored in Los Angeles, where they are only 3-3 ATS. The Suns have been better for NBA betting players on the road, going 2-2 ATS. But they’ve struggled in Los Angeles in recent years, going 2-8 SU and 4-6 ATS in their last 10 trips to the Staples Center. Seven of those games have gone over the posted total, and this is likely to go over as well as both rank in the top three in the West in scoring, so check the total in your online betting book.
