The Warriors Try To Make Their Home-Court Advantage Work For Them Again

Posted by Craig Parsons on 5/8/2013 7:09:23 PM

The NBA playoffs have featured several breakthrough stories, and one of them is the Golden State Warriors, who have yet to lose a playoff game at home this season.

Eastern Conference Semifinals, Game 3:
Miami Heat @ Chicago Bulls – Friday, May 10

In MMA betting contexts, this game comes down to which side can throw more punches and has more overall weapons. That team is the Heat. It’s true that Chicago has stunned the Heat at the outset of this series. The Bulls compete with more inexhaustible determination than any other team in the league.

They are badly wounded, but their players – no matter how mediocre in past seasons – play with a maximum of passion and energy on defense. They are going to force the Heat to make perimeter shots, and with this series shifting to Chicago for Game 3, it’s quite possible that the Heat will not shoot well in a hostile environment. Yet, the sense here is that Miami’s wing players, specifically Shane Battier and Ray Allen, will find ways to hit shots and relieve pressure from LeBron James and Dwyane Wade.

Miami has been such a good team this past season precisely because its role players make shots when LeBron and Wade draw a lot of attention. This is what Miami was missing in Game 1. In Game 3, don’t expect the Heat to miss as many perimeter shots. An elite team knows what’s at stake, and since the Bulls are plagued by injuries, one should not expect them to be able to keep pace with the Heat over the course of this series. Take Miami on Friday night.

NBA Betting Pick: Miami

Western Conference First Round, Game 3:
San Antonio Spurs @ Golden State Warriors – Friday, May 10

Legal online sports betting experts are aware that San Antonio is going to be a very tough out in the NBA playoffs, but even college football betting handicappers would acknowledge that the Golden State Warriors have over-performed relative to expectations after three weeks of playoff competition.

Golden State has been able to shoot particularly well while getting above-average performances from players who have grown up quickly, especially Klay Thompson and Harrison Barnes. This Friday night, the Golden State Warriors will return to their home arena before a deafening crowd, the loudest of any team still left in the playoffs. The Denver Nuggets had three chances to win in Oakland in the first round of the playoffs but could not come through on any of those occasions.

The San Antonio Spurs have more experience than the Nuggets do, but will they be fully prepared for this first of two weekend games in Oakland? Golden State is going to get such an emotional boost from playing at home. The Warriors should play with great energy and will probably be able to get out in transition and outrun the slower, older Spurs. Against most opponents, San Antonio likes pushing the pace with Tony Parker at point guard. However, with Golden State being so lethal in an up-tempo style of play, the Warriors will probably be able to play this game the way they want to.

NBA Betting Pick: Golden State
