NBA Sports Betting – Post-Deadline Week Holds Some Great Action On The Hardwood

Posted by Craig Parsons on 2/6/2014 2:01:56 AM

Online betting players witnessed one of the busiest NBA deadline days in recent memory last week, and the first full week after the deadline features a few solid matchups in your sportsbook. Look for the intensity to pick up as all of the teams are set and are getting prepared for their run to the postseason.

(All numbers as of Monday, February 28th)

Knicks Magic Betting – Tuesday, 7:00 PM ET

The Magic should be the NBA betting favorites at home in this Eastern showdown, but they’ll be facing a New York team coming off a huge win in Miami on Sunday night, and the most surprising part is that they won it with defense and resilience, coming back from a 15-point deficit. The Magic will be wrapping up a seven-game homestand, going 4-2 SU, and they are 4-1 SU in their last five at home against the Knicks, posting a 3-2 ATS record with three straight going over the posted total. Orlando beat the Knicks 112-103 at Amway Arena on December 13th, and New York couldn’t stop Dwight Howard, who had 24 points and 18 rebounds. Carmelo Anthony scored 35 in his lone meeting with the Magic this season as a Denver Nugget, and it would be easy to take the Knicks after their showing against Miami, but players have to remember that Anthony is still getting acclimated to his new teammates and everything isn’t going to go as smoothly as the second half did on Sunday.

Betting Edge: Orlando Magic

Bulls Hawks Betting – Wednesday, 7:00 PM ET

A pair of top-five teams in the East will meet Wednesday at Philips Arena, where the Hawks have won five straight SU against the Bulls, posting a 4-1 ATS mark. However, the Hawks are only 9-17 ATS at home this season, and they haven’t faced this year’s edition of the Bulls at home. This is the first meeting of the season for these two, and the Hawks will be happy to be back in Atlanta after a seven-game road trip which has seen them go from Detroit to Denver, so they could be a bit sluggish. This will be the third of a five-game trip for the Bulls, who finally have a full-strength lineup with Joakim Noah back in the lineup and you can expect Derrick Rose to come up big in this game as the Hawks are still figuring out their point-guard situation after trading Mike Bibby to Washington. There is no way the combination of Kirk Hinrich and Jeff Teague can stay with Rose.

Betting Edge: Chicago Bulls

Magic Heat Betting – Thursday, 8:00 PM ET

In the marquee NBA betting matchup of the week, this Florida rivalry kicks off the TNT doubleheader, and you will likely see the Heat as a favorite at home after a 96-70 rout at American Airlines Arena on October 29th, the second game of the season. Dwyane Wade led the way with 26 points, while Howard dropped 19 points for the Magic, who are 2-3 SU and ATS in their last five trips to Miami. The Heat will be eager to get back out in front of their home fans after collapsing against the Knicks on Sunday, but you have to be worried about Miami’s record against other top-four teams in the East, as well as their execution in late-game situations. LeBron James poured in 51 points in a 104-100 win in Orlando on February 3rd, and the Magic can’t allow that to happen again. Even if it doesn’t happen, though, the Magic can’t stop James, Wade and Chris Bosh on the same night, while the Heat will get out on Orlando’s three-point shooters.

Betting Edge: Miami Heat

Bobcats Lakers Betting – Friday, 10:30 PM ET

This is an important NBA betting matchup for the Lakers, who should be the favorites at home on Friday. Los Angeles got blown out by 20 points in Charlotte on Valentine’s Day, and that came two days after the Lakers lost in Cleveland, sparking many to question (again) whether or not the Lakers were slipping. The Lakers have responded with four straight wins after the All-Star break ahead of a game in Minnesota on Tuesday, and they beat the likes of Atlanta, Portland and Oklahoma City, including the latter two on the road. The Bobcats are actually 3-2 SU and 5-0 ATS at the Staples Center, but they’re going out on their first road trip without Gerald Wallace, who was traded to Portland at the deadline, and that trip got off to a shaky start thanks to a 14-point loss in Orlando on Sunday. We’re looking for the Lakers to avenge their loss in Charlotte with a rout in your sports betting book.

Betting Edge: Los Angeles Lakers
