Nets Bulls Betting Predictions – Bulls, Nets Battle For Position In The Eastern Conference

Posted by Craig Parsons on 2/27/2013 5:49:24 PM

The Chicago Bulls and Brooklyn Nets could realistically gain the No. 3 seed in the Eastern Conference, sparing them of the possibility of playing the Miami Heat in the first two rounds.

Brooklyn Nets @ Chicago Bulls – Saturday, March 2
Betting line: No line

Why Brooklyn Will Win

When football betting gurus pivot from pigskin and look at this NBA contest, they're not going to think that Chicago is going to walk all over Brooklyn. The Nets looked uniquely vulnerable two weeks ago, but they won four straight games, two on each side of the All-Star break, to change the mood inside their locker room. Brooklyn needed the rest provided by the break, especially with respect to its best player, point guard Deron Williams.

Basketball is not the non-contact sport it used to be, and the modern professional game takes a physical toll on its point guards, especially those who contort their bodies in an attempt to take the ball to the basket. Williams is just such a point guard, as is Chris Paul, another injury-magnet ballhandler for the Los Angeles Clippers. Williams needed the time off, and Brooklyn should be able to make a charge up the ladder in the second half of the NBA season.

The charge might not be successful, but in this game – played less than two weeks after the end of the All-Star break – Brooklyn should be appreciably fresh. The team's level of confidence should exist at a reasonably high level, now that the struggles of late January and early February are distant memories for the Nets.

Why Chicago Will Win

Various online sports betting legal outlets are going to give reasonable odds to Chicago in this game, not necessarily because it's a home game for the Bulls, but because of the nuances of the calendar leading up to this matchup. The details of this matchup suggest that the Bulls are a slightly better choice than the Nets. Brooklyn plays Friday night, March 1, against Dallas, while Chicago gets that night off.
The Bulls are a high-energy defensive team. So much of what they do under head coach Tom Thibodeau is predicated on the ability to make quick defensive rotations and switches, so if Chicago is playing with comparatively more rest than its opponent, the Bulls should be in a good position unless their opponent is the Miami Heat, the San Antonio Spurs, or the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Brooklyn is not a member of the NBA's elite, and that's why the Bulls should be seen as the favorite here. Yes, Brooklyn won its first two games after the All-Star break to piece together a four-game winning streak, but those two games were both wins against the Milwaukee Bucks, a lackluster team that's hovering near the .500 mark. Chicago and Brooklyn are evenly-matched teams, so with advantages in terms of rest and home-court comfort, the Bulls should be able to have a little more juice at crunch time, enough to win.

Who Will Win

If there's any slight lean in this game, it should flow to Chicago. The Bulls, with a day off, should be able to play the kind of defense they want to play, the kind of defense they expect to play. Take Chicago in a game that won't reach 95 points for either team in regulation time.
