Nets Wizards Betting Tips – Nets Try To Find Stability In D.C. This Friday

Posted by Craig Parsons on 2/6/2013 6:26:36 PM

The Brooklyn Nets' January surge is now a distant memory. A team that is losing steam must try to find a finishing kick before the arrival of the All-Star break, which arrives in less than a week.

Brooklyn Nets @ Washington Wizards – Friday, February 8
Sport betting line: No line

Why Brooklyn Will Win

When the best online betting sites size up this game, they won't have to come up with overly complex reasons for a Brooklyn victory. Washington had been playing particularly well in the middle of January, but at the end of the month, the Wizards ran out of momentum and inspiration, hitting a wall as inferior teams will often do when they find one of their rare stretches of high-level basketball. It was always going to be a question – and a challenge – concerning the Wizards: Could they sustain an exalted level of performance for anything beyond three weeks? The answer seems to be pretty obvious: no.

Washington had lost four straight games over the past week and a half before beating the Los Angeles Clippers on Monday. In that four-game losing streak, the Wizards' offense simply stopped, averaging only 85 points per night. Moreover, the Wizards suffered two of those losses against mediocre teams, Sacramento at home and Philadelphia (without Andrew Bynum) on the road.

As for the win over the Clippers, one should realize that the Clips are collapsing without Chris Paul in their lineup. Los Angeles lost by 25 to the Toronto Raptors, so the Wizards' ability to win by eight – while laudable – shouldn't be seen as any kind of rejuvenating moment for Washington as a whole. Brooklyn should be able to take care of business against the Wizards.

Why Washington Will Win

This is not high-stakes poker, but NBA basketball needs a dealer just the same, and the lead dealer for the Nets – the man who was supposed to make their engine hum – is just not healthy or good enough to lead them with distinction… not right now, anyway. An ankle injury has clearly bothered Brooklyn point guard Deron Williams the past week or so.

He has averaged just 13 points in his past two outings, and the Nets' offense was listless on Tuesday night in a home-court loss to the Los Angeles Lakers, one of the worst defensive teams in the NBA. The Nets scored just 83 points against the Lakers, who had trouble stopping opponents for most of the month of January. Williams should have been able to preside over a better performance, but his ankle seemed to get in the way.

On a larger level, Williams is shooting almost four percent worse this season than he normally does. His career shooting percentage is 45.2, but this season, he's mired at 41.5. Williams has to be better for the Nets, who have lost four of six and are not playing well at all. Washington can pounce on this team.

Who Will Win

This is Brooklyn's game to lose. These teams are both struggling, so if momentum and recent form cancel each other out, go with the better team. The Nets are the superior club, and they'll find a way to win a close one in the nation's capital city.
