New Recruits To The Rescue

Posted by Brian Mulligan on 11/10/2010 11:56:59 AM

Several NBA teams figure to really improve in the future when they get some key missing components back in the fold.

It starts with Delonte West, who was suspended for the first 10 games but is due to come back November 17 and will play a key role for the Celtics. He can spell either guard playing the 1 and 2 and brings toughness and success to the table.

Carlos Boozer had surgery on this broken right pinky finger and is out till December. When this flat-out force returns, the Bulls just get deeper as they will move Taj Gibson to the 6-man role. If he owns his role and doesn’t snivel, he could be the Chicago linchpin to winning as he is a double/double machine waiting to happen.

He’s an active guy that changes the tempo of the game and when he returns probably late this month, the Golden State Warriors will be much better for wear. We’re talking about Lou Amundson, the former popular Phoenix Sun that like guys like Phil Jackson back in the day and Dennis Rodman, gets under the skin of foes just with his hustle.

Luke Walton, who was named after the recently deceased Maurice Lukas, has been nursing a back and a hamstring but he knows the Lakers triangle offense like the back of his hand and does the little things for L.A. that doesn’t show up in the boxscores but things that can mean the difference between winning and losing.

James Jones thrived in Phoenix and is now contributing in a shooting role off the pine for the Miami Heat. He along with Boston castoff Eddie House have been sharing minutes off the pine as the designated gunner but that will change when Mike Miller comes back to the South Beach.

Miller had surgery on his right thumb but is a proven guy with size who will get open shots all night long with all the attention on LeBron and D. Wade.

Syracuse guy Jonny Flynn average nearly 14 a game in his rookie year, then got hurt in the 2nd to last game of the season. It’s taken him a long time to recoup from hip surgery and although he will re-join the anemic Minnesota squad, he will only make them better.

Look up term walking wounded in the dictionary and see pictures of Greg Oden and Joel Pryzbilla of the Portland Trailblazers.

Both centers are coming off knee problems but should surface late this month and if they are only 90%, the ultra talented Blazers can go that much farther in the playoffs.

Finally, expect the Utah Jazz to have a great boost after the first of the year when Mehmet Okur returns from a torn Achilles tendon. This Turkish phenom has been a double-digit scorer since he came into the league and he goes to the glass to boot.

Okur cannot only pound, he extends the floor and is solid from the elbow and can also hit the 3-ball.

Remember, when evaluating injuries and return from injuries know that it can take a few games either way for teammates to adjust to a star either going out, or coming back.

Good luck.
