Online NBA Basketball Betting - The Western Outlook

Posted by Brian Mulligan on 2/6/2014 9:53:34 PM

There is a great amount of quality in all three Western Conference Divisions of the Northwest, Southwest and Pacific and lets open with the hungry young pups of the Northwest, the Oklahoma City Thunder, according to online sportsbook experts.

Oklahoma is not just about superstar Kevin Durant. With a healthy Kendrick Perkins in the middle, a high-flying act in Serge Ibaka and two quality guards in Russell Westbrook and James Hardin, they have a core to go very deep into the playoffs if not come out of the Conference. Westbrook will need to make better decisions but if he does, look out.

Denver is on the downside. They had several players go overseas with deals that will not allow them to return this season and re-signed Nene, the cornerstone of the team, late. They will be life and death to make the playoffs.

The Rose Garden in Portland will be rocking as usual and the team plays hard but they needed a sensational performance from Brandon Roy last year to stay alive. He’s now retired and all of the pressure will be on LaMarcus Aldridge, who can carry a team in patches. They have a solid sport betting chance to make the elite 8 in the Conference.

Expect the Minnesota Timberwolves to be much improved. Rebound machine Kevin Love is slimmed down and should have more energy but the buzz is all about Spanish whirlwind Ricky Rubio, who is a master point guard but will have to prove it in the Association.

Utah is at one of the lowest points in franchise history. The Jazz blew up the team last year when Deron Williams was traded and at the same time lost legendary coach Jerry Sloan. It will be years before this team gets on the right track unless Memet Okur plays through the roof.

Things may not be so rosy in the Southwest Division as the Dallas Mavericks lost a key piece to last season’s championship, Tyson Chandler. They also lost Caron Butler and J.J. Barea, the breakout player of the post season. On the bright side, the Mavs pulled off a coup getting Lamar Odom for just draft choices. He is a unique player that will be ultra motivated.

Of course, Dirk Nowitzki can get his shot up from the parking lot and Jason Kidd continues to defy age. When it is all said and done, Dallas will have to hold off the San Antonio Spurs and the Memphis Grizzlies to maintain online wagering elite status.

San Antonio is geared up for one more run at a ring. They won almost 60 games last year but have an aging team that showed signs of going the dreaded other way last year after being well positioned going into the post season.

Houston has some major issues with a new coach and an unstable roster and the same goes for the New Orleans Hornets, who lost David West and their best player in Chris Paul.

It’ll come down to the Texas teams to fight it out.

Traveling West to the Pacific Division and the Los Angeles Lakers are still the top dog despite all the drama when training camp started.

With new coach Mike Brown shaking things up, the Lakers will be motivated to excel for two reasons, the early departure last year from the playoffs and to show Phil Jackson that they can win without the Zen Master.

Kobe is still Kobe but he is getting some miles on him, has the personal issue of the divorce to departmentalize and will have to get some help in the scoring department. They still should be the top team.

The Phoenix Suns are yet another aging squad with Steve Nash and Grant Hill holding down the fort. They did the right thing in getting rid of Vince Carter and could sneak into the playoffs but they will not last for long.

Expect the Los Angeles Clippers to have a big year. Blake Griffin will keep them in most games and they have an abundance of young talent showcased by Chris Paul and capped off by veteran Chauncey Billups. The Clips will likely fight the Golden State Warriors to get second in the Division. The Warriors have two solid young guards but are light down low. They are probably a few years away of really threatening.

The Sacramento Kings are not only trying to make the playoffs, they are fighting to stay in the State Capitol. Last year, they were extremely porous on defensive and if you can’t stop anyone, you can win.

So get the popcorn out, strap yourself down to the favorite chair and pay attention early to how the betting lines are adjusting to all the new pieces.
