Online NBA Betting – Tips, Trends And Picks For The Weekend

Posted by Craig Parsons on 2/5/2014 2:09:05 AM

Online sportsbook players are getting ready to ride into the holiday season, and NBA teams are doing the same on the last weekend before Christmas. Here is a look at a few matchups to watch out for this weekend, and a few tips and trends to help you make your NBA betting picks.

Heat Knicks Betting – Friday, 7:00 PM ET

The Heat are favored by five points on the road in New York, where optimism is the prevailing feeling after taking Boston to the limit on Wednesday. Miami has done well in Madison Square Garden in the past, going 3-2 SU and 4-1 ATS in their last five games there, and they’re a stellar 7-5 ATS on the road. The Knicks are 6-5-1 ATS at home this season, and the loss to Boston ended an eight-game winning streak while the Heat have won 10 in a row heading into this game. This will be a matchup of contrasting styles as the Heat lead the league in points allowed, and the Knicks are second in points scored. We know Amare Stoudamire and Raymond Felton will likely have big games, but can the Knicks’ wing players stop LeBron James (who loves playing at MSG) and Dwyane Wade? We don’t think so, and we’re saying an SU win for the Heat, but we’d take the Knicks ATS.

Suns Mavericks Betting – Friday, 9:30 PM ET

These old West rivals will meet in Dallas, where the Mavericks are 8-2 SU (including five in a row) in their last 10 meetings with the Suns, but Phoenix doesn’t make it easy with a 4-4-2 ATS mark in those 10 games. The Mavericks are 7-point favorites in this contest, and they’re 6-8-2 ATS at American Airlines Center, while the Suns are 5-6-1. This begins a three-game road trip for the Suns, who also go to Oklahoma City and San Antonio, and they’d like to start it off with a win as they haven’t been playing well lately. The Mavericks have won 13 of their last 14 games, and they’ll be wrapping up a six-game homestand before heading out to Miami and Orlando prior to the Christmas break. We’re taking Dallas and their sixth-ranked defense to cover their NBA betting odds.

Clippers Bulls Betting – Saturday, 8:00 PM ET

The Bulls will likely be the NBA betting favorites at home in what should be an exciting contest, and they’re looking to turn around their surprisingly bad record at the United Center against the Clippers, who are 4-1 SU and ATS in their last five trips to Chicago. The Bulls are a solid 7-4-1 ATS at home this season, while the Clippers are 6-5 ATS on the road. The Bulls have won seven in a row, holding all but one team under 100 points, but they lost their best defensive player as Joakim Noah is out for 8-10 weeks after hand surgery. That means Carlos Boozer may have to guard Rookie of the Year favorite Blake Griffin, but the Bulls should still be able to come away with the win as the Clippers will be in the second half of a back-to-back after playing in Detroit on Friday, and they’re coming to the end of an East Coast road trip.

Lakers Raptors Betting – Sunday, 1:00 PM ET

The Lakers should be favored on the road in Toronto, where they are 3-2 SU in their last five trips, but only 2-1-2 ATS. The Lakers are a solid 7-7 ATS away from the Staples Center, and this will be the finale of a seven-game trip through the East for the Lakers, who will be in Kobe Bryant’s hometown of Philadelphia on Friday night. The Lakers are 4-1 through the first five games of the trip, while the Raptors had dropped six of seven heading into Friday’s game against New Jersey. Bryant loves playing against the Raptors, and we all remember his 81-point destruction of them in 2006, but we’d beware of the spread bet in this NBA betting matchup. Remember, the Lakers are a West Coast team, and this is the equivalent of playing at 10 AM for them and no matter how good you are, that is going to affect you. The Raptors will be up for this game, and while we don’t think they’ll win, we think they’ll cover the spread.

Suns Thunder Betting – Sunday, 7:00 PM ET

The Suns make another appearance in this NBA betting preview, and again we think they’ll be underdog on the road in Oklahoma City, where they are 3-1 SU in four trips, but only 1-3 ATS. The Thunder are 6-7 ATS at home, while the Suns will be, at best, a .500 ATS team on the road by the time they get to Oklahoma City, which actually isn’t that bad. This will be the last of a four-game homestand for the Thunder, who will host Sacramento on Friday, and the Suns may be the hardest team they face on this homestand. The matchup at point guard between Russell Westbrook and Steve Nash will be fun to watch, but this game will be won defensively, and the Oklahoma City defense is still a bit suspect. Phoenix’s defense has always been suspect, but we’ve always known that and they work with it. We’re taking the Suns on the road in a sports betting bonus upset in this one.
