2014 NBA Betting – Second Half Of The NBA Season Gets Underway, Creating Intrigue

Posted by Craig Parsons on 2/17/2014 8:34:28 PM

Game 1: Atlanta Hawks @ Indiana Pacers – Tuesday, February 18

When basketball betting experts look at this game, they’re going to find it hard to go against the Pacers. The better team in a regular season NBA game might suffer if it is forced to endure a grueling travel schedule, but the Pacers won’t be worn down in this game, given that it’s the first one following the All-Star break. The better teams in the league should generally be able to win on Tuesday and Wednesday night this week in the Association, because they won’t suffer deficits in terms of energy and stamina. The Pacers have already won in Atlanta this season; at home, where they’re very hard to beat, they should be able to dictate the way in which this game is played against the Hawks. It would rate as a huge surprise if Atlanta wins. It’s true that a measure of rust could affect the way in which this game is played, perhaps hurting Indiana a bit in the first half. However, the Pacers are the best third-quarter team in the NBA, at least on defense. They should be able to figure out Atlanta if they do struggle in the first half. Take Indiana in this spot.

NBA Betting Pick: Indiana

Game 2: Cleveland Cavaliers @ Philadelphia 76ers – Tuesday, February 18

When people in the online sports betting legal community look at this game, they’re going to be split on the verdict. Both teams really struggled before the All-Star break, with Cleveland floundering to the point that it fired its general manager, all while head coach Mike Brown is in serious danger of losing his job for the second time as head coach of the Cavaliers. Philadelphia ran out of gas in the final week before the All-Star break, losing by more than 40 points in consecutive games against the Los Angeles Clippers and the Golden State Warriors. Both teams have to be extremely disappointed with the way this season has gone for them, which means that in the final two months of the regular season, the Cavs and Sixers will both be challenged on a personal level. Will these teams play for pride, or will they both tank to get a better draft pick? The Sixers, being lower in the standings, are probably more likely to fall victim to this latter temptation. They might play angrily in this game and beat Cleveland, but the more logical conclusion is that Philadelphia won’t fight as hard as its opponent. Take the Cavaliers if you must.

NBA Betting Pick: Cleveland

Game 3: Toronto Raptors @ Washington Wizards – Tuesday, February 18

For people interested in football betting or baseball betting, there’s nothing to choose from right now in terms of live action. The NBA is where it’s at, and this is an intriguing matchup between two teams that are likely to make the playoffs. The Raptors might be a little bit better in general, but the Wizards are coming off an All-Star weekend in which Bradley Beal and John Wall performed well in the three-point and slam-dunk contests, respectively. Washington might play with just a little more energy than Toronto. That’s reason enough to take the Wizards.

NBA Betting Pick: Washington
