Pistons Pacers Betting Predictions – Pacers Seek A Fresh Start After All-Star Break

When the Indiana Pacers lost two straight home games just before the All-Star break, a lot of eyebrows were raised in the NBA. Was that a mere blip or a sign of things to come?

Detroit Pistons @ Indiana Pacers – Friday, February 22

Why Detroit Will Win

The betting websites that take a lot of action on NBA games will certainly give Detroit a fighting chance in this game, not just because the Pistons have been a competent team since their disastrous 0-8 and 7-21 starts, but because Indiana showed signs of wear and tear just before the All-Star break.

The Toronto Raptors caught Indiana with its pants down in November, when the Pacers were just beginning to learn how to play without injured scorer Danny Granger. That loss was understandable, since Indiana struggled for the first four weeks of the season. However, when Toronto returned to Indianapolis for a second game on Friday, Feb. 8, the Pacers had no excuses. They should have been able to turn back the Raptors, having attained third place in the Eastern Conference due to consistent team defense and a strong work ethic that rarely wavered from game to game.

Yet, Toronto was able to go into Hoosier Country and win yet again, dealing the Pacers just their fourth home-court loss of the season. If that event seemed aberrational to a certain extent, however (and it frankly was), it's a lot harder to make sense of the fact that the Pacers then dropped another decision at home to the Brooklyn Nets, a team that had not been playing particularly well over the previous two and a half weeks.

Did the Pacers hit a mental wall after a strong road trip and a sustained period of high-level performance? Do they need Granger even more than previously thought? Are opposing coaches making better adjustments? Whatever the answer might be, Detroit has to be given a serious chance, more than anyone might have reasonably thought two weeks ago.

Why Indiana Will Win

Even mma betting experts who do not pay all that much attention to professional basketball would likely tell you that Indiana let down its guard in those two aforementioned home-court losses. The Pacers had just gotten back from an extended road trip and, just before the All-Star break, likely hoped that they could pace themselves (pun not intended) and win in the fourth quarters against Toronto and Brooklyn.

Yet, Indiana's attempt at energy management didn't work. At any rate, the Pacers have now gotten a full complement of rest and can attack the remainder of the regular season with fresh urgency and plenty of fuel in the tank. The two losses to Toronto and Brooklyn should be seen as aberrations, not as signs of things to come. Detroit is not a playoff team and should not be given more than a 20 percent chance of winning this game.

Who Will Win

This is going to be a decisive win for the Pacers, who have no reason to be distracted or unsettled as this game tips off. Indiana plays better defense and has established a superior internal subculture when compared to the Pistons, who are still learning how to mesh at both ends of the floor.
