Predictions For Betting On Chicago Bulls – Bulls Need To Re-Group

Posted by Craig Parsons on 10/22/2012 6:52:32 PM

For legions of online sportsbook gurus, the main question surrounding the 2012-2013 Chicago Bulls is the only question that really needs to be asked: When is Derrick Rose returning?

The main source of basketball intrigue that online betting sites are focusing on, certainly in the Eastern Conference, is when Rose – the superstar point guard and MVP-level performer – will rejoin the Bulls' lineup. Speculation has run rampant in recent months about the actual status of the man who, once he left the lineup with a severe injury, left the Bulls hopelessly shorthanded in the 2012 playoffs. With Rose, Chicago whacked the Philadelphia 76ers in game one of the NBA postseason. Without him, the Bulls lost four of the next five games to Philadelphia and tumbled out of the playoffs in the first round to a number eight seed. It's true that Chicago developed a deep bench during the regular season in the 2011-2012 campaign. Coach Tom Thibodeau cultivated several role players who were able to mesh as a collective whole, especially at the defensive end of the floor. No team outworked the Bulls during the past regular season, and that's why Chicago got the top seed in the Eastern Conference as the playoffs arrived.

However, as soon as Rose got injured, the world of the playoffs – in which opposing coaching staffs have more time to lay out specific defensive schemes and game plans – turned the screws tightly on Chicago. The Bulls tried to get more production from center Carlos Boozer and shooting guard Luol Deng, but Philadelphia clamped down. The Sixers took away Deng and tried to make Boozer beat them. The strategy worked to perfection, as Boozer failed to hit the 17-foot baseline or wing jumpers that he absolutely had to make in order for Chicago's halfcourt offense to thrive.

The point is plain: Chicago needs Rose in the lineup as soon as possible if it wants to get a decent seed in the East – at least fourth or third – and then make a charge at the playoffs in April with a comparatively rested and fresh-legged Rose leading the charge.

The ranks of online sports betting experts have listened to a lot of rumors this offseason. Rose's rehabilitation schedule was supposedly in line to get Rose back to the court by March. Then it seemed that the rehab was progressing so well that Rose might have been able to join the team by some point in the middle or latter stages of February 2013. After those reports, however, rumors surfaced in which Rose had hit a setback, enough of one to suggest that he might not rejoin the team during the regular season.

All in all, Rose has to move forward with his rehab efforts. The Bulls have to get more scoring from Boozer and his backup, center Taj Gibson, in the regular season. Chicago has to get rebounding and shot-blocking help from Joakim Noah, whose injury against the 76ers also hurt the Bulls in the playoffs. If these pieces don't come together, it will be another frustrating year for this high-profile franchise.
