Lebron, Spurs Set To Meet Again In NBA Finals Six Years Later

Posted by Craig Parsons on 6/4/2013 7:47:34 PM

Lebron James and the Miami Heat are back in the NBA Finals for the third-straight online sports betting season. Each year it has been a different opponent that has challenged the Heat, but this season Miami will be going up against an opponent that Lebron is very familiar with. It takes back to the pre-Big Three era, before the Decision, and before Lebron had one a championship ring. Lebron was leading the Cleveland Cavaliers in his first-ever NBA Finals appearance, and they were swept by Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, and the San Antonio Spurs. Fast-forward six years later and it’s Lebron versus the Spurs again, only this time he has a new supporting cast. Miami dominated its game seven against the Indiana Pacers in the Eastern Conference Finals, and is now looking to get its hands on a second championship ring.

Lebron has a much different looking supporting cast this time around, and they flexed their muscle in game seven of the Eastern Conference Final. Dwyane Wade scored 21 points, Ray Allen chipped in with 10 first-half points, and then of course it was Lebron that led the way with 32 points in that game-seven win. Chris Bosh continued to struggle from the field with just nine points, but he and Wade are two proven commodities when healthy that Lebron didn’t have in 2007. That said, there is no doubt that Lebron will need to play at an elite level in order for the Heat to win a second-straight championship ring, and it will be a tough online betting challenge with the Spurs rested and waiting.

Many of the names remain the same for San Antonio six years later, including the core of Duncan, Parker, and Manu Ginobili. All three players were key in the Spurs’ 2007 sweep, and although Ginobili has struggled with injuries and inconsistent play, he is still dangerous when healthy. Parker and Duncan still look as though they are in their prime, and a big reason for that is the young bodies that have stepped in to play key roles around them. Tiago Splitter has emerged as a legitimate starting center next to Duncan, while Danny Green and Kawhi Leonard have taken on bigger roles at both ends of the floor. The core of the 2007 championship Spurs’ team is still intact but has been revitalized thanks to some new weapons, and that makes San Antonio as dangerous as ever.

As impressive as the Pacers looked in pushing the Eastern Conference Final seven games, the Spurs are in an entirely different class and will provide the Heat with their biggest obstacle yet. San Antonio also benefits from nine days rest after sweeping the Memphis Grizzlies in the Western Conference Final, and they have had plenty of time to prepare for this NBA Finals both mentally and physically. Miami will be the favorites to win it all again, but the Spurs have every reason to feel confident about their chances and six years later, there is a good chance that sports betting history could end up repeating itself.
