Sixers, Wizards Engage In A Test Of Professionalism

Posted by Craig Parsons on 4/11/2013 7:28:17 PM

The Philadelphia 76ers and the Washington Wizards are going to watch the playoffs on television – that’s the only way they’ll be attached to the postseason, anyway.

Why Philadelphia Will Win

Legal online sports betting analysts know that when they do their homework and go over the important matchups in this game, they will emphasize the centrality of the fact that Philadelphia has not tanked at the tail-end of this season, giving credence to the notion that coach Doug Collins still commands respect in the huddle.

Let’s realize this about Collins’ statement a few weeks ago, which said that he and the organization undeniably made a mistake by signing Andrew Bynum without knowing the full truth about the health of Bynum’s knees: It was nothing more than candor. Collins was acknowledging a mistake that he participated in. He was not giving up on the season but simply coming face to face with the truth of his and his team’s situation. This was not so much an act of waving a white flag of surrender as it was a public admission of what was already obvious.

The Sixers, after that statement, could have been reasonably viewed as a team that would in fact tank the final five weeks of the season in search of a better draft pick, but the most recent 10 games of the season indicate that Philadelphia – while assured of the draft lottery – is continuing to play hard. The Sixers have split their last 10, which is better than most of the other non-playoff teams in the Eastern Conference.

Collins is still seeing legitimately good effort on the floor, a sign that this team wants him to stick around for the 2013-2014 campaign, ideally with a retooled and improved roster. All in all, if Philadelphia is still putting forth a good effort, it should be able to beat a team such as the Wizards.

Why Washington Will Win

When NCAA football betting gurus drop in on NBA basketball and look at another realm of the sports world, they will say that while the Sixers could create problems for the Wizards, it’s Washington which has been the better team over the past three months, and it’s really hard to dispute that claim.

The Wizards, once 4-28 and in the gutter, have climbed out of misery and fashioned a season in which they’re going to come close to the 30-win mark. Head coach Randy Wittman looked like a dead duck in early January, but after getting his team to play near the .500 mark over the final 50 games of the regular season, he’s guaranteed to have another year as the Wizards’ coach. There’s a hopeful vibe surrounding the organization, and this is the kind of thing that matters in a late-season game between two non-playoff teams.

Who Will Win

It’s clear that without Bynum, the Sixers remain limited. Washington point guard John Wall, who scored 33 points on Tuesday night in a loss to the New York Knicks, is likely to light up Philadelphia’s defense and carry the Wizards to victory.
