Tips For Betting On Pistons Rockets – Rockets Look For First Home Win Saturday Versus Pistons

Posted by Craig Parsons on 11/8/2012 5:51:43 PM

The Houston Rockets are a franchise on the rise in the Western conference. It may still take some time before they reach their sports betting potential for this season. The new-look Rockets have split their first four games of the 2012 regular season, with newcomer James Harden leading the way with an average of 35.3 points per game. Harden was held to a season-low 15 points in Wednesday’s loss to the Denver Nuggets, and while it could take some time before he and his teammates develop the chemistry needed to win with consistency, there is a ton of optimism surrounding the team’s early play. With the Detroit Pistons in town on Saturday, Houston will have an excellent chance to get back on track.

NBA Sportsbook Line: Houston – 3.5

The Pistons are winless through the first two weeks of a schedule that has included six-straight on the road across the west coast. However, the difference in their schedules isn’t the only thing separating Detroit from a team like the Rockets early on, which is why Saturday’s game could end up being a sportsbook blowout.

NBA Betting Preview: Detroit Pistons

Two of the Pistons’ last three losses have been double-digit blowouts, and it won’t get any easier in Houston just one night after taking on the defending Western conference champion Oklahoma City Thunder. While Detroit does have a pair of viable franchise player in center Greg Monroe, the former Georgetown star has not been surrounded by enough talent to maximize his potential and allow him to thrive. Monroe has been a force in the paint and on the boards once again this season, but aside from Brandon Knight there isn’t much there. Rodney Stuckey is talented but inconsistent, while Tayshaun Prince is a one-dimensional player that is very streaky at this point in his career. There aren’t many teams ranked near the bottom of the NBA in both points scored and points allowed, so it’s no surprise that the Pistons are winless.

NBA Betting Preview: Houston Rockets

Harden 35.3 points per game is easily the highest average in the NBA early this season, nearly nine points better than three-time scoring champion and former teammate Kevin Durant. With Harden’s pure scoring power, Jeremy Lin’s creativity, and Omer Asik’s dominance on the boards, the Rockets have three players that they can now build a legitimate contender around going forward. Asik and Chandler Parsons are the two biggest reasons that Houston is ranked second in the NBA in average rebounds, while Lin has averaged over seven assists per game early on. Marcus Morris and Patrick Patterson have provided the secondary scoring this Rockets’ team needs to thrive, completing a talented young nucleus.

NBA Betting Preview: Outlook & Pick

While it will take some time for Houston to reach the level of consistency it needs, the raw talent this team has is enough to make it a legitimate playoff contender in the Western conference. That talent will be on full display when the Rockets go for their first home win this Saturday against a Pistons’ team that will be happy just to be headed back home following a long road trip, and it wouldn’t be a surprise if this one was over after three quarters. Houston wins in an online betting blowout.
