Oklahoma City's Enemy Is Complacency In Its Visit To Minneapolis

Posted by Craig Parsons on 3/27/2013 5:51:26 PM

As the NBA regular season comes down to the final dozen games, the Oklahoma City Thunder continues to try to chase down the San Antonio Spurs for the number one seed in the West.

Oklahoma City Thunder @ Minnesota Timberwolves – Friday, March 29

Sport betting line: No line

Why Oklahoma City Will Win

When football betting gurus with relatively minimal basketball expertise assess the chances of the Thunder in this game, they're going to point out that Oklahoma City relentlessly puts pressure on the opposition with the firepower it brings to each game, chiefly through the combination of Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant. The Thunder have one of the league’s most efficient offenses, and Minnesota is a team relatively void of any elite defenders.

Oklahoma City should be able to get shots wherever and whenever it wants them, ringing up over 100 points in this game. The Thunder have a massive rebounding advantage in this game in large part due to the absence of Kevin Love for the remainder of the season with an injury. The Thunder should be able generate plenty of second-chance points if shots aren’t falling early, thereby making the Timberwolves play from behind for most of the evening.

With that said, this game isn’t all about the Thunder’s offense. The Timberwolves simply can’t shoot and have very few players capable of creating their own shot. Only twice all season have the Thunder lost a game and scored under 90 points, the point being that if you want to beat the Thunder, you have to be able to throw the ball in the basket. That is something that hinders the Wolves here. Minnesota is the worst three-point shooting team in the league, and this is amplified even more when you consider the fact that Oklahoma City is tops in the league in blocks. The Thunder will welcome Minnesota to take outside jump shots, while Minnesota would prefer to get baskets inside, where the strength of the offense lies. On top of all of this, Oklahoma City has been dominant against non-playoff teams this season. The Thunder rarely take a night off, and that is a major reason they are where they are in the standings.

Why Minnesota Will Win

Even if you don't care for online casino games, you have to acknowledge that since Oklahoma City has a packed schedule next week, including a monster game against San Antonio on April 4, the Thunder might not be focused on this tilt. If there’s one thing Minnesota may have to hope for in this game, it is that the Thunder overlooks the T-Wolves due to what lies ahead on their schedule and the chase for the top seed in the Western Conference. Part of the Thunder’s high-powered offense exists within the reality that the team turns the ball over quite a bit.

If Minnesota can value those extra possessions and make them pay off, perhaps the Wolves can keep the game close for a while and hope to pull it out late. Ricky Rubio will have to nearly match Russell Westbrook, since the Wolves are limited for offensive options and quite frankly don’t have the same firepower.

Who Will Win

The Thunder’s track record against non-playoff teams makes an analyst think that this game will be another easy win for Oklahoma City to add to its track record. Look for OKC to pull away early on the backs of Durant and Westbrook and for this one to be decided well before the final whistle.
